The Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup 7th Grade Division brought some fresh faces and usual suspects. Here’s our first look at the top performers.
Clash For The Cup 7th Grade Top Performers Part 1
Anthony Mauro Guard (Jersey Ball)- The lefty is highly touted throughout the region and he showed he scoring prowess over the weekend. He scores in bunches from all three levels and led the team with 13 markers in the championship game. He enters each event with a target on his back but it doesn’t seem to faze the Garden State product.
Alex Mazella Guard (Jersey Ball)- Mazella saved his best game for the semi-finals versus Team Mafia. The crafty point guard not only ran the show but he also lit up the scoring column with 18 points. He showed the ability to handle pressure and still create opportunities in the process. He’s a quality all around quarterback.
Nick Harken Forward (Jersey Ball)- Harken didn’t have a heavy scoring weekend but he did all the other things that helped his team get the banner. Nick played good defense and was a menace on the glass. He’s a high energy player who uses his motor to make plays which he did this weekend. He showed true leadership skills.
Talib Martin Forward (New Heights- National)- This lanky forward is oozing with potential. His wiry frame and long arms allowed him to crash the boards, alter shots and score the rock. He finished with a game high 18 points in the semi-finals which propelled them into the championship. Keep an eye on this kid.
Jordin Anderson Forward (New Heights – National)- Anderson helped in the scoring column and also hit the boards. He shows versatility by being able to create and guard multiple positions. He’s a good utility player to have and weak side rebounder.
Angel Conde Guard (New Heights – National)- Conde quarterbacked this team to the championship by sharing the rock and keeping his teammates happy. He can also hit the open shot when the rock is rotated his way. Point guards are graded by winning so Conde gets a high grade for the weekend by reaching the finals.
