DIARY OF A BALLER: AJ DYBANTSA (BROCKTON, MA) ENTRY #1
This is my first entry in the Diary of a Baller. I’m thankful that Mr. Melton is allowing me to share what I do during the week. My name is Anicet Dybantsa Jr but I am known by AJ. I’m 14 years old from Brockton, Massachusetts and play for Expressions Elite. I go to St Sebastian’s School in Needham, Massachusetts and I’m in the 8th grade. My parents take me to practice and games all the time and travel to all these states for me to play basketball and I appreciate them. My coaches Joe Saunders and Keyshawn Narcisse and my trainer Brandon Ball also play a big role in my development and success as of now and I thank them for that. Now let’s start with my weekly journey.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: ERIC JAMES JR. GOES FOR 40!

Position: Shooting Guard
Class: 2026
Event: Tip Off Classic
Breakdown: Eric James Jr. is a tough finisher at the rim. He scored 40 pts in pool play and did not shoot one three pointer. His layup package is pretty aggressive and doesn’t let any defender slow him down. He is very impressive and we are looking for great things from him. This was one of the best Tip Off Classic scoring outings in history.

TIP OFF CLASSIC 4TH GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP: MPO ELITE WINS CROWN
MPO Elite defeated Riverside Hawks 44-20 to win the Basketball Spotlight Tip Off Classic 4th Grade Championship. MPO played an aggressive style all weekend which helped them win the crown. Basketball Spotlight would like to congratulate both teams for making it to the finals.

DPS Success capped off a great weekend by defeating NJ Shore Shots 49-28 to win the Basketball Spotlight Tip Off Classic 5th Grade Championship. DPS Success displays great execution and discipline for a team at this age. Basketball Spotlight would like to congratulate both teams for making it to the finals.

Wiz Kids defeated Team Spartans National 2027 54-42 to win the Basketball Spotlight Tip Off Classic 8th Grade Blue Division title. Wiz Kids once again proved to be a solid program taking home the banner. Basketball Spotlight would like to congratulate both teams for making the finals.

Expressions Elite defeated NJ Legacy 62-48 to win the Basketball Spotlight Tip Off Classic 8th Grade Orange Division title. The X ran through the event impressively with a few mercy rules and took the banner back up I95. Basketball Spotlight would like to congratulate both teams for making the finals.

Basketball Spotlight will let to thank parents, players, spectators and staff for a great weekend. Its’ the support of you guys that made the Tip Off Classic a huge success. The teams played hard and we had several first time champions crowned. We will also work on things on our end to give you guys an even better experience next time out.

BASKETBALL SPOTLIGHT CLASH FOR THE CUP RETURNS
The Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup is the second stop on our circuit and will take place March 5th and 6th in Mount Laurel, NJ. This event will bring together some of the top teams in the region. Make sure to register quickly because this event will sellout.

TIP OFF CLASSIC RULES AND REGULATIONS
All Games Use Stop Clocks
4TH GRADE Division- 2 (12 Minutes Halves)
5TH GRADE Division- 2 (12 Minute Halves)
6TH GRADE Division- 2 (13 Minute Halves)
7TH GRADE Division- 2 (14 Minute Halves)
8TH GRADE Division- 2 (14 Minute Halves)
Fouls:
Foul Out- 5
Fouls
1-1 Bonus- 10
Fouls
Double Bonus- 13 Fouls
Overtime: 2 minutes.
Time Outs: There will two full timeouts a half (4 per game) for each team. No carry over and no 30 seconds time outs.
Uniforms: Each Team must have two sets of uniforms (light and dark).
Mercy Rule: If a team is ahead by 20 points the clock will run and with 2 minutes remaining in the contest the game will be called at that point. The team ahead by 20 will be awarded the victory.
Birth Certificates: All teams must have birth certificates for each player on their roster in case of a challenge. Each team will be allowed unlimited grade exceptions. Grade Exceptions must have paperwork. Eligibility Cut Off Date Is July 1. Reclass Eligibility Cut Off Sept. 1
Challenges: Must be made before the game and will cost the challenging team $60. If the challenging team is correct their money will be refunded.

Basketball Spotlight returns with the J.E.M. MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASSIC. This event will bring together some of the top grammar and middle schools in the region over the winter break. The event gives the schools a chance to shine and showcase their talent. The champions will be rewarded championship banners to hang in at their schools. Don’t miss out on the action.
