Basketball Spotlight Adds Class Of 2023 (Rising 9th Grade) To Future Phenom Camp!


Due to the high demand for participation the Basketball Spotlight has extended the Future Phenom Camp to involved the Class of 2023 (Rising 9th Graders). In The Spotlight: Robert Rossi (Ball Hawks)

Name: Robert Rossi 

 AAU Teams: Ball Hawks 

 Position: Shooting Guard 

 Class: 2023

 Breakdown: Rossi was another player we saw during our trip to Moody Park. He left early so we weren’t able to get his photo. Rossi played well in his team’s loss as he got buckets from the inside and on the perimeter. I also like his nose for the ball as he appeared to be at the right place at the right time.

Basketball Spotlight MDC Baby Baller Profile: Zaquan Cullers-Boyd (MPO Elite)

Name: Zaquan Cullers-Boyd 

 AAU Team: MPO Elite 

 Class: 2027 

 Position: Forward 

 Breakdown: Every championship needs a glue player that does it all and Cullers-Boyd fills this role for MPO. He plays with energy on defense and rebounding. He also can finish off plays in transition. His unselfish play helped them grab the banner.

Name: Kamdyn Jackson 

 AAU Team: Team Delaware 

 Class: 2027 

 Position: Combo Guard 

 Breakdown: Jackson was the “Go To Guy” especially in the championship game. The confident scoring guard dropped 14 of his team’s 20 points. He gave MPO Elite all they could handle in the finals I like this kids game.

 Position: Point Guard 

 Breakdown: Turner ran the point over the weekend for the 4th Grade Champs. He looked good in drive and kick situations. He also was able to get into the lane. In the championship he stepped up big in the scoring column with 10 points.

 Breakdown: Nayar ran the show for Jersey Force all weekend. He created for teammates and scored himself including double digits against MPO Elite (13 points) and NJ Hornets (10 Points).

 Breakdown: Saini had a good weekend at the MDC. The forward hit the glass and scored double figures in a few games. I like his touch and developing footwork. He scored 14 markers in their win against MPO. Keep an eye on this kid.

 Breakdown: Hawkins played inside for Playtime and did a heck of a job. He was able to score, get rebounds and clog the lane on defense. His play helped Playtime reach the semi-finals of the MDC.

 Class: 2026 

 Position: Combo Guard 

 Breakdown: Jeter was a beast on the defensive end while moving his feet well and making things difficult for ball handlers. He also found a way to get into the scoring column with his 12 point effort versus MABC.

 Breakdown: Taylor caught fire from the perimeter in their semi-finals loss to Castle Athletics. He tallied 15 points while connecting on 3 treys from deep. He fits well in the back court with Elijah Thenor. PP looks like they have a mean back court for years to come.

 Breakdown: Matos looked good at times in the championship game. He put pressure on the defense with his penetration skills and was able to score buckets even a deep trey. He finished the game with double digits (11 points).

Name: Elijah Thenor 

 AAU Team: Playtime Panthers 

 Class: 2026 

 Position: Point Guard 

 Breakdown: This talented guard showed his skills during their semifinal game against Castle. He handled the pill, set up teammates and scored when he needed to. He drained 2 treys and finished with 17 points. His all-around talent was on full display at the MDC.

Name: Dozie Nwigwe 

 AAU Team: Monroe Crusaders 

 Class: 2027 

 Position: Combo Guard 

 Breakdown: The scoring guard played up in the 5th Grade division and still held his own. He got buckets against the Hunting Park Warriors with 18 markers and King Street Kings with 12 points. He’s one of the elite players in this class in the region and we can’t wait to see him at the Future Phenom Camp.

 Breakdown: McKie has some special talent at the guard spot. He got anywhere he wanted on the floor while making things happen. He scored the rock well against Monroe Crusaders with 14 points. Philly might have another young baller in this kid.

 Position: Combo Guard 

 Breakdown: Brown got some key buckets in the championship. He knows how to attack the gaps and pull up for the short jumper. He’s tough as nails and difficult to strip because of his low dribble. He seems to have a bright future.

 Position: Forward 

 Breakdown: Keith was a serious problem on the blocks. He used a mean up fake and good footwork to score. He averaged double figures over the weekend. His body control was very impressive for a youngster of this age.

 Position: Wing Forward

 Breakdown: Bryson went hard at the Riverside Hawks in their first meeting. The lanky forward showed supreme dominance while dropping 25 points. It’s difficult to slow him down once he gets going. We love the way this kid goes hard. Hopefully we see him at the Future Phenom Camp.

 Brandon Russell Forward (FCP Elite)- Russell was a tough scorer around the basketball and had a nose for the ball. He showed some passing skills while showing some range from the free throw area. Once he gets a little stronger he will be able to finish better throw contact. He scored 15 points in their semi-finals loss to NJ Bulldogs.

 Peter Mauro Guard (NJ Bulldogs)- Mauro is focused and a certified killer when he’s on the floor. He showed dominance all weekend especially in the scoring column. He can finish in transition or hit the jumper when you step off him on defense. He also had a shot of winning Mr. Memorial Day. He finished the championship game with 20 markers and 24 points in the semifinals.

 Joell Idoro Guard (T Town Ballers)- I love Idoro game. The lefty picks his spots well and has a craftiness that cannot be taught. He can kill you from all three levels and plays with the confidence that will translate to the next level. He nailed 3 treys on his way to 15 points in their semi-finals loss to Jersey City Boys Club. Keep an eye on this kid.
