Basketball Spotlight 7th Grade Post Season Awards

The Basketball Spotlight 7th Grade circuit was filled with talented teams and top ranked players. Here’s a look at our Post Season Awards.

Basketball Spotlight 7th Grade Post Season Awards

Team Of The Year: New World Unlimited
NWU won the AC Showcase and was runner up in the Clash For The Cup. They had a good balance of great defense and executing on the offensive end. Their two championship game appearances got them over the top.
Player Of The Year: Zion Cruz (Hilltoppers Heat)
Cruz was the only player to lead two different teams to Spotlight championships. He was the catalyst as Team Rio National won the Tip Off Classic and did work with Hilltoppers Heat as they won the Gold Ball at the MDC. This kid is one the rise.
Most Outstanding Player: Antonio Sellers (Gauchos)
Sellers lead the Gauchos to the Clash For The Cup crown. The point forward showed supreme versatility in his game while scoring and dropping dimes at will. His impact was immediately shown when he stepped on the floor.
Coach Of The Year: Ryan Gorham (New World)
It was Gorham’s first year with this bunch but he had them looking like a well-oiled machine. They emphasized the team first mentality which helped them win the AC Showcase and other championships.
Best Prospect: Dariq Whitehead (Team Magic)
Whitehead put in work with every team he traveled to Basketball Spotlight with. The wing guard used his size and scoring prowess to get buckets. He shined with Team Magic, Long Island Lightning and won the MDC with the Hilltoppers Heat. He has some star potential.
Most Improved Of The Year: Jaquan Harris (NJ Bulldogs)
Harris stepped up this year and spreaded his wings. The big two guard scored the rock from three levels and displayed the confidence of a top-notch player. We are looking forward to him stepping up again this season.
Best Scorer Of The Year: Rodney Rice (New World Unlimited)
Rice lit up the AC Showcase. He was fluid from deep and showed he could attack off the bounce. He has a natural knack to score and displayed it in a big way on the stage. This kid just gets buckets.
Best Defender: Jalen Duren (Team Final)
Duren anchored the Team Final defense while blocking and altering shots in the lane. He also can get out on the perimeter and guard wing players. This kid seems to have unlimited potential and will be a name to know in the upcoming season.
Best Playmaker: Justice Williams (Hilltoppers Heat)
Williams put on a show at the MDC. The lanky guard took home Mr. Memorial Day honors as he cut through the defense while getting buckets and dishing the rock. He’s becoming a name to know around the country.
Best Shooter: Ben Roy (NJ Shore Shots)
Roy will pull the trigger from the cheap seats. He can hit shots off the dribble or once he sets up. He hit some deep bombs against some top teams in the region.
Newcomer Of The Year: Roddy Gayle (We R 1)
Gayle was the talk of the AC Showcase. The combo showed he could get buckets and get to the hole against anyone in the land. I loved the wiggle in his game, length and willingness to score the rock. Stay on the lookout for him.
