WGL Energy To Green The Tip Off Classic!
Basketball Spotlight has partnered with WGL Energy Services, Inc. (WGL Energy) to green the Basketball Spotlight Tip Off Classic. WGL Energy has donated enough carbon offsets to counterbalance conference emissions from energy use at the event space, hotel stays, food and land-filled waste.
This is equivalent to:
- Taking 6 cars off the road for one year, or
- Avoiding the consumption of over 3,263 gallons of gasoline, or
- Planting over 752 tree seedlings that grow for 10 years.
Carbon offsets are an affordable and innovative way to counterbalance emissions resulting from everyday activities such as travel and energy use. Carbon Offsets from WGL Energy specifically are Green-e® Climate certified and derived from verified carbon reduction projects in the waste management sector, which capture and destroy methane from regional landfills. Even better for the environment, WGL Energy invests a portion of the proceeds into the Carbon Reduction Fund, managed by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and used to develop new projects, such as tree plantings, to improve air and water quality in the region and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Since 2010, the Carbon Reduction Fund has supported numerous projects, including the planting of over 19,000 trees throughout Maryland.

Diary Of A Baller: Trey Patterson (Somerset, NJ) Final Entry
Trey Patterson and His Father Antoine
Hello Basketball World,
This is Trey Patterson signing back in for my final entry of ‘Diary of a Baller’.
On Monday, it was a pretty light day for me. After school, I had an orthodontist appointment and I got my rubber bands put in. For about the first two days, they were hurting so much, but after that I started getting used to them.

Super Skillcase Profile: Shane Dezonie (Tobyhanna, PA)
Name: Shane Dezonie
Hometown: Tobyhanna, PA
Class: 2021
Position: Shooting Guard
Analysis: One of the main reasons I like Dezonie is because no matter the accolades he receives including high ranking he still leaves everything on the floor. He got it done as usual on both ends of the floor but also put in the dirty including hitting the glass against bigger forwards. He also took it upon himself to guard the some of the biggest opponents in the gym. This kid played like a warrior at this event.

Class: 2023
Position: Combo Guard
Analysis: Ian was one the players that really caught my eye from the Class of 2023. He has an excellent stroke from deep and any afraid to pull it at any time. He has good size for his position which allows him to shoot over defenders. He should be one that we have to keep an eye on.

Name: Shamar Cox
Hometown: Vineland, NJ

Position: Point Guard
Analysis: Cox is only a 5th Grader but has a pass first mentality combined with unique ball handling skills. I like how he sees the floor and delivers the rock on time. He didn’t back down from the older competitors and did more than just hold his own. SJ might have another good one in this kid.

Analysis: While some players tend to be a little selfish in this setting Barnett was the complete opposite. His willingness to pass the rock especially up the floor in transition stood out. His main concern is his team getting a bucket and he made sure the ball was delivered on time.

Analysis: Williamson continues to add inches to his frame which it’s important because he’s a power player. I like the quickness he showed on the baseline and in the paint. He has an aggressive motor and loves to eat the glass on both ends. He caps his game with a soft touch and good footwork. He’s definitely a problem on this level in the paint. Philly Triple Threat has a double-double machine with this kid.

Analysis: The strong forward is very light on his feet and effective around the basket. He runs the floor very well and finishes off plays. He’s sort of intimidating on this level on the defensive end and when rebounding. The next step in his development will be to continue to work on his wing game just in case he needs to transfer to the perimeter in years to come.

Super Skillcase Profile: Jaquan Harris (North Brunswick, NJ)
Name: Jaquan Harris
Hometown: North Brunswick, NJ
Class: 2021
Position: Shooting Guard
Analysis: The first thing I noticed with Harris was his increase in size. He shot up a few inches and it has affected his game in a good way. Now he can pass and shoot over defenders with ease. He showed some scoring prowess but also displayed some point guard or play making instincts. He’s an interesting prospect that we will keep an eye on. He should make a jump into our next set of rankings when they drop. He also should be one of the go to men for the WE R 1/Bulldogs this season.
