8th Grade Program Preview: The Playaz Prepare To Grab The Banner!

This season Basketball Spotlight would like to start our program previews. We will give you a look into the top programs in the region and let you know what to look forward to. 

Team Name: Playaz Basketball Club 
Hometown: Paterson, NJ 
Coaches: Kiela Brevard, Jorel Spencer and Tommie Patterson 
Key Returning Players: Armoni Sexton, Tavon Jones, Mikey Watkins, Rob Miller, Tyson Eitenne and Twan Grier 
Key Additions: Justin Winston, Jahvon Quinerly, Ja’quaye James and Shelton Applewhite 
Key Departures: Kris Banks 
Last year championships: Spring Fling, Basketball Spotlight MDC 
Scheduled tournaments: Basketball Spotlight Circuit, Hall Of Fame Classic, MIT, Boo Williams, and more. 

Coach’s outlook: The goal as a program is to have our kids ready to play varsity High school basketball. We are still jelling as a team and learning off of each other. We want to win games and events but we want are kids ready for the next level.... 

Spotlight Analysis: After tough outings at the Tip Off Classic and Clash For The Cup Coach Brevard promised me his team would improve quickly. He delivered on those words when they took home the Gold Ball from the MDC. Now this season they have a loaded roster and high expectations. They return one of the most talented forwards in the country (Armoni Sexton) and acquired two highly touted players via the Supreme Team (Jahvon Quinerly and Justin Winston). I’m also hearing a lot of noise about this guard Ja’quaye James. Last but not least the Playaz have added the expertise of veteran coach Tommie Patterson to help on the bench. On paper this team looks scary and seems like one of the early favorites to take home the Grand Finale banner.
