Jamir Harris (Piscataway, NJ)
The Hoop Group Future All American Camp took place at Albright College in Pennsylvania and Basketball Spotlight made a brief stop. I took in some action Monday night before leaving early Tuesday morning with an illness. Here’s who impressed us in our short stay.
Top Performers
Class of 2017
Jamir Harris Guard (Piscataway, NJ)- It’s been about a year since I’ve seen Harris. I heard about his dedication to the gym and I must say it has paid off. Harris is powerful enough to get rid of defenders with a strong step back and array of dribble moves. He shoots the ball well off the dribble, showed an improved handle and really explodes past defenders. Its official that he has reclassified into the Class of 2017. Therefore the rising 8th Graders need to beware because “The Terminator” is coming!
Devin Clyburn Forward (New York, NY)- I saw Clyburn’s name on a few ranking list so I was interested in his game. He seemed to dominant the inferior competition he faced by posting up deep in the lane and just powering up. He has a strong frame and was quick off the ground. I think he needs to put more interest into his perimeter game in case he has peaked in the growing department.
Jalen Gibbs Guard (La Plata, MD)- Gibbs has a flashy handle and tries to breakdown defenders each time down the floor. He shows good basketball instincts in of his feel for the game and making plays. As he matures he may understand that to pick his spot and go instead of doing so much with the pill. This kid does have some talent.
Malik Zachery Guard (Syracuse, NY)- Zachery donned the orange and blue to represent his home city. He prefers to pull up after creating space off the dribble. He does have point guard instincts and should impact the game better against good competition when his body fully develops. One of his best attributes is his tremendous range.
Ricardo Dominquez Guard (New York, NY)- Ricardo is a tough NY guard with solid moves and a lot of confidence on the floor. Like most Big Apple guards he likes to attack defenders but he didn’t get out of control with his actions. He’s very poised when it comes to making plays.
