Basketball Spotlight MDC 11U Top Performers (By "Squirrel The World")
Justice "Just-Ice Ellison (PV Select)
The 11U Division also had some ball players that shined under the Spotlight. Here’s a look at the 5th Graders that caught our eye.
Basketball Spotlight MDC 11U Top Performers
Justice Ellison Guard (PV Select) - Slick ball handle with a killa crossover like Allen Iverson at the age of 11. This kid can dribble a basketball threw NY traffic with the president in town. But he’s not just all ball handle, his heads up approach allows him 2c the floor and get everyone involved. Back off he has a nice set up jumper as a healthy appetizer ….
Jaheim Tanskley Guard (Playtime)- Long range sharp shooter, with a knack for getting into the lane. Posses the ball handle to allow this wing scorer to get straight to the hoop. Once his body develops and follows what his mind is thinking this kid is a walking 20ppg easy.
John Wilson Guard (Playtime)- This kid’s basketball feel is that of someone twice his age. He already possesses the concept of pass 1st/ shoot 2nd as a very young player. But that doesn’t mean the BK native doesn’t know how to break you down and finish when his number is called in a 1-4 situations.
Mark Bradshaw Guard (Team Nelson)- This dynamic combo guard can do it all on the court. With speed and athleticism that is almost unmatched on this level, his motor has him running in 3rd gear while others are stalling in 1st. So weather its long range bombs, or swift moves to the basket Mr. Bradshaw can flat out fill it up.
Cole Matthiesen Forward (PV Select)- The big man commands the middle of the paint like a young Ramon Ramos. He keeps the ball high as he finishes over smaller opponents. Relentless on the boards, when this baby Moses Malone body feels out it’s going to be a problem.
Zion Bethea Forward (KSK)- Big “Z” and I’m not talking the retired center from the CAVS. I’m talking “Z” from KSK. This kid can flat out due it’s all, whether it’s taking his man off the dribble, posting up smaller and bigger defenders, or being a playmaker there is nothing beyond his scope on the court. He’s a polished scorer right now and did I mention he’s ten years old.
Matt Ganter (Jersey Force)- Matt played one of the best floor games I saw this weekend. Tremendous jump shot and court awareness, I’ve seen high school seniors not be able to set their man up like this kid. His range is when the coaches van pulls up to the school’s gym. Matt “baby face” Ganter, get the name right.……
Daequan “Dea Dea” Mullins Guard (MSU)-Tough as nails, this 94ft defender was the Ballboy for Plainfield High’s back 2 back state championship teams …. Real team guy …. In the mode of Duke’s WoJo…. AND WILL “SLAP THE FLOOR” JUST LIKE HIM WHEN HIS TEAM NEEDS A STOP ….. A coach’s pleasure and just what every team needs.
Kamille Pryor Guard (MSU)- Flashy with the ball this Edison product you may remember, played with the
”Natural Ballers “ last yr. now playing for MSU he is asked upon to deliver in
the clutch and that’s exactly what he does. Just really learning “his game”
once this baby baller “get’s it” ….. UNION COUNTY WATCH OUT!
Basketball Spotlight 12U Top Performers Part 3 (By "Squirrel The World")
Atiba Taylor (KSK)
The Basketball Spotlight 12U Division was loaded with top ball players and squad. Here’s our thrid report of the top performers provided by our new evaluator “Squirrel The World”.
Atiba Taylor Guard (King Street Kings)-Smooth lefty jump shot, possesses great court vision and already has a mature mid-range game. Mr. Taylor plays the game with great pace and tempo, his “herky- jerky” ball handle comes equipped with a stutter step similar to a young Shawn Livingston.
Nashiem Harte Guard (PLAYAZ BASKETBALL CLUB)-One of the best things about watching this kid is his relentless approach to attacking his opponents, “Brave Harte” and no not Mel Gibson from Scotland, but Nashiem from Irvington NJ has everything that is needed to break through the enemy’s defense.
Jamir Lattimore Guard (PLAYAZ BASKETBALL CLUB)-This kid has just what you look for in a pg, smart, quick, decisive, and vocal. Jamir has great energy on the floor, a team motivator who picks his team up when the game gets a little out of control by making the “easy plays”. Very patient and can’t be “sped up” with ball pressure, he’s real cool customer.
Zaheem Garrett–(Rip City) –Smooth combo guard with excellent feel for when to pull up in traffic, this kid sees the floor very well and will shock you with his athletic ability. In the mode of Bradley Beal from Florida, Mr. Garrett can flat out get it done on both ends of the floor.
Damon Wall (Rip City)-Wall is a tremendous finisher at the rim and above average body type for someone his age. He’s a slasher with a Dwayne Wade type aggression to the basket. Rip City’s coach describes him as a “baby Dion Waiters”.
Karrem Benard (Rip City)- Speedy pg with a slick cross over to leave his man looking like he’s wearing skates. Damon has an excellent feel for the games tempo, this baby Gary Payton will have coaches drawling over how he can pressure the ball 94ft.
Javade Mackson Guard (T 1 Ballers)- “Action Mackson” is what I was calling this kid by the end of the game. Dynamic with the ball in his hands this young man gets his team going like Isaiah Thomas in a mid-80’s all-star game. Elite level basketball IQ. Finishes in traffic and with a handle that you can dribble a ball threw a key hole …..
Marcus Hammond Guard (LI Lightning)- This speedy pg has excellent court vision and headiness to make everyone around him better. Always has his head up and will develop into an elite level pg in the future, with his willingness to except coaching and his work ethic.
Tarrence Trice Guard (LI Lightning)- This combo guard with a Dwayne Wade build and athleticism is a fierce penetrator with the body to finish at the rim with contact. Once this young man develops his jump shot he’s a walking 10 free throw attempts per game.
Tim Plwidzki Guard (Team Owens)- Crafty kid always finds the ball. He’s a terrific finisher on the break, excellent penetrator with a coach’s kid bball IQ. Tim’s relentless aggression attacking the basket allows for him to draw fouls on the opposition, while avoiding offensive fouls with his great body control.
The Basketball Spotlight 12U Division was loaded with top ball players and squad. Here’s our thrid report of the top performers provided by our new evaluator “Squirrel The World”.

Basketball Spotlight MDC 12U Top Performers Part 2 (By "Squirrel The World")
Zegary Scott (Playtime Panthers)
The Basketball Spotlight 12U Division was loaded with top ball players and squad. Here’s our first report of the top performers provided by our new evaluator “Squirrel The World”.
MDC 12U Top Performers Part 2
Zegary Scott Guard (Playtime)- Very polished floor general creates for teammates and makes the game easy for his coach. Always vocal on the floor he exhibits a maturity that a coach will find refreshing. Has a “team first” mentality that will foster a winning environment for whatever program he plays for.
Jack Rooney Guard (Playtime)- The Jack OF Spades is no joker. Leave him open and the joke will be on you. This kid reminds me of a young Rex Chapman with his quick release and ball handling to complement. Excellent floor spacer with the understanding of how to move without the ball.
Reggie James Guard (T 1 Ballers)- Dynamic scorer, with elite savvy to draw contact and finish. Already knows the value in understanding one dribble pull up jump shots in traffic. He’s a natural slasher who can put up buckets in a hurry and has a motor like a Chevy.
Jared Maharaj Guard (Riverside Hawks)- Excellent jump shot with outstanding movement off the ball. Jared posses a Reggie Miller type feel for flaring into corners to get his shot off teammates dribble penetration as well as the ability to ball fake running defenders and get to the cup.
Moses Brown Forward (Riverside Hawks)- Long, rangy, defender and rebounder has great hands with fundamentally sound post moves that will remind you of a young Tim Duncan. Once his body develops and he reaches his true height he will remind people of the throw back centers from yester year.
Jalen Lecque Guard (Playtime)- With a hesitation dribble that resembles Deronn Williams, Jalen freezes his opponents and blows by them b4 they get into their defensive stance. Don’t think for one minute that this kid is all ball handle because he exhibits a nice jump shot that will consistently force the defense to play him honest.
Jahan Dotson Guard (Wall 2 Wall)- This kid can simply flat out put the ball in the hole. Excellent penetrator, this electrifying combo guard with a lighting quick cross over, has a knack for scoring over size in the lane. Once his jump shot matches his driving ability this kid is a walking 30ppg …
Basketball Spotlight MDC 12U Top Performers Part 1 (By "Squirrel The World")
Luther Muhammad Helped KSK Win It All
The Basketball Spotlight 12U Division was loaded with top ball players and squad. Here’s our first report of the top performers provided by our new evaluator “Squirrel The World”.
MDC 12U Top Performers Part 1
Luther Muhammad Guard (KSK)- A power combo guard in the mode of a Russell Westbrook already has the physicality to dominate opponents on the defensive end. Gets to the basket at will, once his jump shot becomes polished his stock will be as high as Apple.
Will Yarborough Guard (KSK)- Dynamic with the ball in his hands, this speedy combo guard is a very hard cover for most of his age. Great outside shot and plays an excellent floor game at such a young age. Already understands backing the ball out and getting his team set. Will is going to be a valuable asset to any team he’s on with his heady play.
Razeyah Surrell Forward (Playtime)- True PF can make any team better with his consistency around the rim and rebounding. While most kids his age wait for the ball to come to him Mr. Surrell goes and gets it. This long arm rebound machine well keep coaches smiling as second chance shots became second nature with his relentless approach to attacking the glass.
Jamal Whittlesey Forward (ECE)- With a rare combination of speed and power Jamal could easily go around a kid or simply just go over them. He already has the physique of a high school junior and the where with all to know how to use it. This kid is just scratching the surface of his true position and potential.
Chico Whyte Forward (Wall 2 Wall)- Excellent hands finishes around the basket with ease. Great feel for help side defense, when this kid matures, his off the ball defense will remind coaches of a young Theo Ratliff with the offensive fundamentals of any Georgetown center.
Judah McIntyre Guard (New Rens)- Excellent floor general, super quick with the ball in his hands. A pure pass first pg that commands the attention from his teammates and dictates the tempo at all times. This young man is a perfect extension for any coach. He possesses the leadership of a Mateen Cleaves and the bball IQ OF a Steve Nash.
Nayshon Kane Guard (New Rens)- His smooth moves to the basket exhibits excellent body control. Knows how to draw and finish with contact. His unassuming athletic ability low’s his opponents to sleep and his quick first step puts his defender at a disadvantage. Reminds me of a young Billy Owens.
Dorian Hardy Forward (Riverside)- Being strong with the ball under the rim allows young Mr. Hardy to be an excellent finisher. Displays great court awareness as to when to kick the ball out and get solid re-post position after being double teamed. He has the touch of a two guard and the power of a big man once this kid finds his way ….. Sky’s the limit
Jared Kimbrough Forward (Jersey Force)- Good touch polished around the basket, excellent rebounder and shot blocker. Jared uses a great lower base to power up on smaller competition. Cerebral with his post moves, this 12 year old will be backing down a big man near you in no time.

Gauchos Have The Gold Ball On Their Mind
The Basketball Spotlight MDC 14U Division is wide open with the “Money Team” not participating in the MDC. Now we will see which team will step up to take the Gold Ball.
Basketball Spotlight MDC 14U Preview
Gauchos: The Choz are coming the AC Showcase crown so they will be looking for another banner to cruise into the Grand Finale. They want to take the Gold Ball back to the Big Apple.
Playaz: PBC is the highest seed in this event so a lot will be expected. They made a couple final four finishes but need to title for bragging rights. This is their chance. Step up or step off lol.
ST. Michaels: The darlings of the circuit have a Blue Division crown and won the NJ State title in alarming fashion. A victory here will give them the Gold Ball and possibly a Coach Of The Year Award.
F.A.C.E.S.: It’s only fitting that the Killer Bees make a Spotlight appearance before they graduate. Now General Cole will try to guide them to a MDC crown. We know they will be prepared.
MABC: The Bengals had the juice a few years ago and must want to show they are still a force to reckon with. They have a good pool to prove they are ready for some wreck.
Team Final: Remember them? TF should have everything rolling at the MDC. They would love to end the Spotlight season with a roar.

Team IZOD: The Big Red Machine should be hungry for the Gold Ball they haven’t touched the winners circle thus far. They have one of the best prolific scorers in the country so they are always in the game.
Milbank: “The Bank” had some player movement but they still have the talent to make a deep run. We will see if they are the next big thing from NYC in this one.
New Heights: I want to see how New Heights responds at the MDC. They showed flashes in the past but haven’t made the mark they should have. This is their chance to show and prove.
Team Elite: Team Elite wanted a shot in the Orange division and now they have it. Hopefully they have the guard play to handle this rugged field. Only the strong survive.
New Rens: We are looking for NR to sow us something after winning the Blue Division at the Clash For The Cup. Our eyes will be on them.
Other Team To Watch: MABC, M Plex Swish, Playz, Philly Freedom Stars, etc

Basketball Spotlight MDC Locked and Loaded
The Basketball Spotlight Memorial Day Classic is packed to capacity and we would like to thank everyone that supported this event. We will begin posting the schedule and other important information tomorrow morning. Once again we will like to thank everyone again for the support and we look forward to a great event.
Diary Of A Baller: Tyus "Kid Mamba" Battle (Edison, NJ) Entry # 39
What's up basketball world? I am here again to tell you how my week went. Monday morning I was late to school, just a few minutes but like my dad, I really hate to walk in late for anything. Over all school went very well, nothing really to report, just another day in May at Holy Savior Academy. After school my dad picked me and my brother up at 2:PM and then we all went to Mr. Subs for sandwiches. Monday night, my brother and I went to Plainfield HS for training with Mr. Rich at US Hoops. We did skill work for 1 hour plus and I worked on dunking while Coach Rich gave his attention to the other kids. I seem to be getting more athletic everyday!
Tuesday was my first day with my new AAU team NJ Roadrunners. My dad moved me to the Roadrunners from Final because number 1 Sandy and Tommy are really great trainers and coaches but also because my dad could not get me to workouts in Philadelphia and or Delaware with the 15U team, since we live in central NJ. I am playing with the 16U Roadrunners and I cannot wait for my first tournament. First practice went well and did pretty well I believe. I like the team and the coaches and the ride is a lot shorter for us only 20 minutes one way in the car. This makes things easier on my family and allows me to get things done including homework. I miss Team Final though. Oh well, the one thing you can count in life is change. "My dad always reminds me to stay adaptable and humble, you keep a job that way"
Wednesday we had a game at Hoop Heaven in Bridgewater. It really is just a fun league for me to try new things but for my brother it is chance for him to get better and show that he has some skills of his own. I know he gets tired of hearing how good and or how tall his older brother is. I must tell you guys to look out for my brother in a few years because he is going to be very good. He is a better shooter than me when I was his age and he has a scorer’s mentality. He is a 5th grader and is not scared of anyone; look out for Khalif Battle in the class of 2019. The Hoop Heaven game went very well. We won by 20 and all the kids contributed. Khalif and I lead all scorers with 22 points each and he talked about it all the way home in the car. I missed a dunk in traffic and my dad was so happy I attempted it. The little things that make parents happy. LOL
Thursday we had practice again with the Roadrunners, I played very well. My dad even said I looked dominate at times and my dad is a hard guy to please. My goal is to be very aggressive on both ends and become the best defender at the guard spot in NJ next year. I have a long way to go for sure but I am getting better. Offensively, I am getting better also and 99% of the time it is fun to be in the gym. After working out with the Roadrunners, dad and I dropped off my brother at home and went to the Club at Woodbridge to lift weights while also working in skills and drills. Cobie Silverstein showed up to work out and we put some good work in together. He even convinced me to lift weights again for 30 additional minutes after we finished the skill work. I was really tired when I got home and went to bed without a shower and my contact lenses still in.
Friday, I worked out with my strength trainer Julian and we did full body for one hour and afterwards I found a guy who I cannot remember his name to do skill work. I know the guy knows my dad and he is in college, so it was cool. We worked for an hour on shooting off the catch and off the dribble before my dad came in and threw in the towel. My dad rushed me out because he had a date with my step-mom, otherwise he would have never stopped my workout. LOL! It is late on Sunday and the Clippers are losing again. My Lakers are down 3-1 and the Heat are tied 2-2 with Indiana. Basketball is life!
This Tyus Battle signing off.

Micah Lancaster has directed a Nike related training academy with Kobe Bryant and has worked with NBA players such as Dwyane Wade, Kyrie Irving, Mario Chalmers, and Nolan Smith along with many others. Now players, grades five through eight, will have the same opportunity as NBA, college, and high school stars to experience Micah's innovative skill training and teaching techniques. The Skillcase is designed to make every player feel like they are alone in the gym with Micah.
Players will be brought through elite skills training in the morning and a competitive five on five game sessions in the afternoon all under the watchful eye of Mike Melton's Basketball Spotlight. Camp video highlights and player analysis will be posted on www.bballspotlight.com at the conclusion of the event.
Through innovative NBA skills training, organized competition, and the presence of Basketball Spotlight, each player will be given the unique opportunity to "skillcase" themselves by flashing their talents, improving their skills, and showcasing their game like never before! Space is limited. Register online now! www.skillcase.org
