Justin Winston scored 17 points and Mikey Watkins added 15 markers as Team IZOD defeated Playtime 63-53 to win the NJ 12U AAU State Championship. Jalen Lecque led Playtime with 14 points in the loss. Top Performers
Justin Winston Forward (Team IZOD)- Winston once again had a great showing. He totally dominated the game on both ends of the floor. He constantly finishes off passes and put backs after rebounds. On the other end he anchors the defense by altering and blocking shots. When IZOD needed a big play Justin stepped up and got it done. He should be considered as a serious POY candidate.
Tyrek Chambers Forward (Team IZOD)- Chambers had a tough time scoring the ball but IZOD benefitted from his ball handling skills. He was able to push the ball against pressure and make some impressive plays including a great behind the back pass to a streaking Jalen Brooks in the first half.
Mikey Watkins Guard (Team IZOD)- Watkins might be the most important piece to this scoring machine called Team IZOD. Mikey is not only the primary ball handler but brings his quarterbacking skills to the hardwood when making decisions. He used his court vision to thread the needle with passes while also using his drive, draw and dish game to bleed the Playtime defense. His 15 markers also showed he knows how to keep the defense honest when penetrating.
Jalen Lecque Guard (Playtime)- The tough combo guard got going a little too late in this one. He caught his groove from the perimeter during the 4th quarter comeback attempt.
Jack Rooney Guard (Playtime)- Rooney is a player that seems to get better each time he steps on the floor. He shot the ball with confidence in this tense environment and even showed he could put the pill on the floor and dance a little. We haven’t seen the end of this kid.
Rob Higgins Guard (Playtime)- Higgins made a couple of key plays as Playtime tried to steal the victory. He wasn’t as hot a previous outings but he made the defense take notice with his aggressiveness and willingness to shoot the rock.
