"Money Team" Takes Providence

CBC Wins Again!

#1 CBC continued its winning ways by defeating New Heights 60-36 to win the Hoop Group Providence Jam Fest. The “Money Team” has become the home for hardware this season. Azar Swain and Raheem Solomon took home Co-MVP Honors for this New England region power house.

Diary Of A Baller: Tyus "Kid Mamba" Battle (Edison, NJ) Entry # 36

What up basketball world?

Monday was strictly a chill out day for my brother and I. My dad gave us a day off to relax from workouts. Therefore we did not play basketball, which I never feel is a good thing. My dad always says that it is good to get away from the game sometimes so your mind and body can refresh.

Tuesday, school took forever to end or at least it felt that way. As soon as I arrived home I jumped onto the couch to take a nap. After my nap and some homework that took me an hour to complete. I went into my basement to work on my body for an hour. I am really trying hard to get stronger these days, although my dad says my body will change as I get older and continue doing the work. I feel like it is taking a while though, I mean my father’s side of the family have tall and lean muscular builds. My grandfather on my dad’s side was 6 ft 7 and built. I hope I can be like Pop. On my mother’s side the family is shorter and stocky, although my mother is not short. She is about 5 ft 7. I guess God only knows what I will be when and if I stop growing taller and wider. Now I am 6 ft 4 without sneaks and 6 ft 5 with my sneaks, unless I have my Lebron's on because they sit a little taller, I am over 6 ft 5 LOL! Finally, Tuesday night after dinner I went to the gym to workout hard with my dad and Julian and they killed me! Let’s just say that the next day I could hardly move.

Wednesday, I went to the gym with dad and did skills with a kid that dad trains. This kid is really getting better. Thursday at school, I had a few quizzes that I was prepared for and after the quizzes in the morning, the rest of the day went smooth. I am going to miss my friends at school when I move on to what nana say's are, "Greener Pastures" I am looking forward to the changes and the challenges of whatever is next but I will miss Holy Savior and all the people for sure. Friday, I missed school because we had a basketball tournament in Virginia. It was experience that will make me better and I will never for it. "Because limits like fears are just an illusion"

Basketball Spotlight Video Feature: Tremont Waters Pouring It On!

Tremont Waters has been one of the hottest names on the circuit this summer. Not only has the 7th Grader dominated playing 14U with CT Elite at the Spotlight events but he also touring the 16U circuit with the New England Playaz. I haven’t seen any new Class of 2017 rankings but I know when they drop Waters will have to be high on radar when they drop.

Fans Voting Poll: Who Is The Best 8th Grade Wing Guard In The Country? (Cast Your Vote)

The rankings are always done by the analyst and scouts but Basketball Spotlight loves to keep the fans involved. We feel the fans should have some say so in who they feel are the best. Therefore for the next few weeks we will be developing different categories for you guys to have some say. We have collected the Top 5 wing guards and their highlight clips and would like you to vote on who you think is the best. Please Note: When voting from a mobile phone or Facebook scroll to the bottom of your phone screen and convert the view to website version and this will allow you to vote.

1. Reggie Gardner (Lardo, MD)- The move shooting guard has potential written all over him. He plays with a stacked therefore I don’t think we have seen the total package of this kid yet. Recently, Reggie has shown some improved athleticism and ball handling. I think when it’s all said and done his stock will soar.

2. Devonte Green (Long Island, NY)- Green could have been listed in the combo guard category but his ability to score landed him here. Green has put up serious numbers at the Spotlight events while also playing well on the high school varsity level. His play has helped Team Scan collect a few championships and earned him the nickname “The Chef” because of the way he cooks the defense.

3. Adrian Moore (Conway, Ark)- Moore has been a human highlight reel since 6th Grade. But his leaping ability shouldn’t over shadow his game because he has a lot of it. He has an AAU National title under his belt and now tours the country with the talented Dunk Dog Elite squad. He will be a name that will make some noise for years to come.

4. Vijay Blackmon (Fort Wayne, IN.)- Blackmon has the genes and the game that turned heads in the Midwest. He can score it from all three levels and has a smoothness that can’t be taught. We expect Blackmon to snatch many votes from the Midwest region. The kid has some serious game. When it’s time for college I will be surprised if he allowed to leave the state.

5. Malik Crowfield (New Orleans, LA)- I don’t know if it’s fair to have teammates on the same list but Crowfield joins Moore has one of the top wing guards around. Standing 6’4 Crowfield has been compared to a young Penny Hardaway among others. This entry should make the voting very interesting.

Class Of 2016 National Video Profile: Joshua Jackson (Detroit, MI)

Joshua Jackson is a 6’6 wing forward from Detroit, Michigan. He’s an 8th Grader but spends most of his time on the circuit playing 16U for the Nike Sponsored “The Family”. Jackson seems to be a recruiters dream, long, lanky, athletic and with a lot of bounce to his game. He’s rated in the Top 10 on several ranking list.

Diary Of A Baller: Tyus "Kid Mamba" Battle (Edison, NJ) Entry #35

What’s up basketball world, I am back with entry 35. Monday I went to work out with a few of the players from St. Joes. We first did a few ball handling drills to warm up. Afterwards all we did was put up a lot of jump shots from off the dribble and stationary, which I always need.

Tuesday after school I went to work out with a few kids from Gill St Bernard’s, while there we didn’t do a lot skill work which is common but we did play a lot of 5 on 5 which was fun! When the games were done I got up a few shots before we had to leave to go to my game at Hoop Heaven. We got to the game late and when we walked in the gym and were down by 30 points. Therefore my dad told me that I needed to play because they had me on the roster for these situations. That was one of the most tiring games I ever played in. For 20 minutes I had to do everything from dribble, score break the pressure, and also calming the team down. Unfortunately we ended up losing by 8 but I think if it wasn’t running clock we may have won. I wanted to beat that team for the kids of Metuchen. The opposing team was pressing and completing embarrassing the Metuchen group before I arrived.. Next time I’m going to arrive at the beginning and the outcome will be different. My dad said I had 35 points in 15 minutes (running clock) and although they were 7th and 8th graders I am used to being the least strongest kid on the court and youngest not the biggest and strongest. I probably was not the oldest since I am only 14 and in the 8th grade.

Thursday I had practice with the Team Final 15’s. At the beginning we did a few drills with the 16’s and after we just reviewed our plays and sets. The practice ended up being only about an hour and thirty minutes since we had a tournament coming up that weekend in Maryland.

Saturday we woke up at 6 AM because we had to drive all the way to Maryland and my game was at 11. When we finally got there, my whole body was tight and I had to really stretch before the game. The first team we played was NJ Got Game and we ended up only beating them by 10. We should have blown them out but we had a really slow start which kept the game close. Our next game we played King Street Kings. They were really never in the game and we won by about 30 points.

Sunday I had to wake up at 6 again because we had an 8 o clock game against the All Ohio Red. We started out the game blowing them out and going up by 18 points but in the second half we were flat and they ended up tying the game and sending it into overtime. This game was crazy because I didn’t get a chance to shoot the ball until there were 10 seconds to go in overtime and made the wide open jump shot to put us up by 2 with 6 seconds to go, and we end up with a close win. Finally it’s the championship game against Boo Williams. This game was also never close and we got the easy 25 point win. After our game we stayed and watched the 16u beat Triple Threat to win the 16u championship. Next week I have another tournament coming up so I will be telling you all how that goes.

This is Tyus Battle signing out Peace.

Word On The Street: Bankrupt!

A lot of things are going on around the AAU world right now. So we decided to hit a couple of our sources and bring you another “Word On The Street”. Remember some of this information is from reliable sources including those directly involved.

“The Bank” Is Closed?

Reports out of The Big Apple has #2 13U Milbank breaking up. According to a source inside the program Coach Rodney has decided to take Paul Person, Keshaun Ellis, Hayes Kechner and Sean Morris out of the program and move to another camp. My source also indicated that the direction of the program was the main reason in their departure. They also indicated that tough guard Tyrese Whitaker is on the fence and but might end up joining the rest of the players that have departed. Expect another announcement soon about where this group might land.

Harge Leaves NC Rising Prospect?

The report out of Carolina is that point guard Damon Harge has decided to end his short tenure with NC Rising Prospect 13U squad. Harge became well known through the camp circuit and recently playing varsity basketball as a 6th Grader. It will be very interesting to see where he lands. This could be a major coup for another squad in NC especially if he decides to play 12U basketball.

Is Wall 2 Wall For Real?

Before the AC Showcase I got an email from a team from Allentown, PA claiming to be the real deal. This team was Wall 2 Wall and once they came to the AC Showcase they proved to be too much for the Blue Division. Currently they have qualified for the Mid Atlantic Final Four after defeating some good teams including #7 East Coast Elite. Is this squad ready for the primetime? We shall see very soon.

NJ 12U AAU State Championship Recap: Team IZOD = State Champs

Team IZOD Wins NJ State Title

Justin Winston scored 17 points and Mikey Watkins added 15 markers as Team IZOD defeated Playtime 63-53 to win the NJ 12U AAU State Championship. Jalen Lecque led Playtime with 14 points in the loss. Top Performers

Justin Winston Forward (Team IZOD)- Winston once again had a great showing. He totally dominated the game on both ends of the floor. He constantly finishes off passes and put backs after rebounds. On the other end he anchors the defense by altering and blocking shots. When IZOD needed a big play Justin stepped up and got it done. He should be considered as a serious POY candidate.

Tyrek Chambers Forward (Team IZOD)- Chambers had a tough time scoring the ball but IZOD benefitted from his ball handling skills. He was able to push the ball against pressure and make some impressive plays including a great behind the back pass to a streaking Jalen Brooks in the first half.

Mikey Watkins Guard (Team IZOD)- Watkins might be the most important piece to this scoring machine called Team IZOD. Mikey is not only the primary ball handler but brings his quarterbacking skills to the hardwood when making decisions. He used his court vision to thread the needle with passes while also using his drive, draw and dish game to bleed the Playtime defense. His 15 markers also showed he knows how to keep the defense honest when penetrating.

Jalen Lecque Guard (Playtime)- The tough combo guard got going a little too late in this one. He caught his groove from the perimeter during the 4th quarter comeback attempt.

Jack Rooney Guard (Playtime)- Rooney is a player that seems to get better each time he steps on the floor. He shot the ball with confidence in this tense environment and even showed he could put the pill on the floor and dance a little. We haven’t seen the end of this kid.

Rob Higgins Guard (Playtime)- Higgins made a couple of key plays as Playtime tried to steal the victory. He wasn’t as hot a previous outings but he made the defense take notice with his aggressiveness and willingness to shoot the rock.

KSK'S Dynamic Duo Shines At AC Showcase

Atiba Taylor and Luther Muhammad (KSK)

Atiba Taylor and Luther Muhammad might be the best 12U Duo in the country. The awesome twosome has led KSK to several championships including the Basketball Spotlight Clash For The Cup. Taylor kills opponents with his superior guards, size and court vision, while Muhammad punishes them with his bruising style and ability to score the pill. Check out their highlights at Basketball Spotlight’s AC Showcase.

Inside The AC Showcase 14U: Here Comes The Choz

Choz Chases Down Title

The NYC Gauchos recently underwent and overhaul. While in transition the 14U group still managed to stay together and even win the AC Showcase in the process. Veteran Coach Paul Suber chimed in on their success in AC; “People are saying the Choz are back, but we (14U) never left, teams please don’t sleep on us because we are ready to go”. The Gauchos will have to be ready as their next stop will be the MDC before meeting up with Team Scan on Memorial Day (Monday) for the New York AAU Crown.

Grand Finale Impact
Since Team Scan and DC Assault only have totaled 9 points apiece. The Grand Finale final four is still wide opened. If ECE, St. Michaels, Gauchos, and Playaz gain 3 or more points at the MDC, Team Scan and DC Assault could be on the outside looking in for the Grand Finale. This race is too wide open to name the teams that will be invited to Life Center Academy in June.

Inside The AC Showcase 13U: "Money Talks"

CBC Stays On Pace

When the self proclaimed “Money Team” first came into existence there were many skeptics about how long it would last. Now after winning the AC Showcase CBC has positioned themselves as the top seed for the Grand Finale in June. Coach Hatctett feels that the Spotlight circuit is a great test for his team; “Basketball Spotlight has made us a stronger team by matching us up against the top teams in the region. We expect to be challenged and get better. I feel blessed that we were able to answer the call every time the challenge got greater”.

Grand Finale Impact
Well CBC is in and the only way they can loss the #1 seed is if they sit out the MDC and Milbank wins it all. Team Final, Team IZOD, Team Takeover and New Heights are battling for the two remaining spots. This should make things at the MDC very interesting to say the least.

Inside The AC Showcase 12U: DC Assault Steps Into The Spotlight

DC Assault Makes Things Interesting

In the 12U Division of the AC Showcase we anticipated a Team IZOD and KSK matchup for the championship but DC Assault has other plans. The Potomac Valley crew came up to America’s Playground and rolled through the tournament. They knocked off some impressive teams in the quest to win their first banner.

Grand Finale Impact
Team IZOD is a lock for the #1 seed but after that things get very interesting. They are 5 teams (KSK, ECE, New Rens, Playtime and DC Assault) battling for the remaining 3 spots. The MDC will definitely have an impact on what teams will make up the 12U Grand Finale Final Four.

Inside The AC Showcase 11U: ECE-NJABC Train Keeps Rolling

ECE-NJABC Crushing The Competition!

When the season started ECE-NJABC was featured as one of the teams to watch but after winning the AC Showcase they have shown complete dominance over opponents on the Spotlight circuit. After winning his 3rd banner of the season Coach Anthony Gaffney still remains modest, “I’m proud of the way the boys played in Atlantic City. That tournament was our toughest challenge thus far and we fought back showing the true heart of a champion”.

Grand Finale Impact:
ECE-NJABC is a lock for the final four. Playtime is in but should look to secure that #2 seed. Team Nelson, New Rens, New Heights and possibly CJ Hawks will use the MDC to fight for those two remaining final four spots. This is definitely a race to the end to crown our Grand Champion.

Basketball Spotlight 14U Top 10 Presented By AGame Team Apparel

The 14U ranking has a new king. Remember these rankings are just our opinion and should be taken as such.

Basketball Spotlight 14U Top 10 Presented By AGame Team Apparel

1. Team Scan: TS returns to the top spot after defeating DC Assault at the Boo Williams tournament and winning the 14U Spring Fling crown. They are a lock for the Grand Finale and a favorite to take home that big banner.

2. DC Assault: “The MOBB” have been hobbling since Joe Hampton went down with an injury. We probably have seen the last of this group even if they qualify for the Grand Finale.

3. Playaz: After the Top 2 teams it’s a fall off and this is where the Playaz land. They are still chasing that elusive banner but recently registered for the MDC. That might be their shot.

4. ETU Warriors: The Warriors recently won the Potomac Valley title and have been playing some good ball lately. They are definitely a team that nobody really wants to run into.

5. Gauchos: The Choz jumped right back into the mix after winning the AC Showcase. Now they will try to gather some more points at the MDC and enter the Grand Finale through the backdoor.

6. King Street Kings: KSK had a good showing at Boo Williams and showed be a team to watch when the AAU Nationals come around.

7. St. Michaels: After winning the Blue Division of the Clash for the Cup they made it to the finals of the AC Showcase Orange Division. They are now playing at the level that many predicted when the season started.

8. East Coast Elite: ECE made it to the final four of the AC Showcase. They have been knocking on the door of a championship appearance and they have one more tournament to get it done.

9. Team Final: TF is still trying to find their identity. They are currently participating in the Mid Atlantic Regional’s before coming to the MDC.

10. New Rens: Time is running out on this super team project. We will see if they can capture a championship before the season ends.

Basketball Spotlight 13U Top 10 Presented By AGame Team Apparel

The 13U rankings didn’t have much movement after the AC Showcase. Remember these rankings are just our opinion and should be taken as such.

Basketball Spotlight 13U Top 10 Presented By AGame Team Apparel

1. CBC: The “Money Team” held on to the top spot after winning the AC Showcase. They are a lock for the #1 seed at the Grand Finale. I know they have their eye on that huge prize.

2. Milbank: “The Bank” was so impressive that we had to move them into the #2 spot. They also should have a safe slot at the Grand Finale. We might be looking at another big time showdown versus CBC for all the marbles.

3. Team Takeover: TT still remains in our Top 5 because of their fire power and having won the Clash For The Cup. They might make a stop through the MDC. That would make things very interesting.

4. Team Final: Should be named Team Final Four because once again they made it to the semifinals. They haven’t won a banner yet but maybe that might shock the world like Expressions did last summer.

5. Team IZOD: TI moves back into our Top 5 after making it to the final four run at the AC Showcase. They ran into a buzz saw in #2 Milbank.

6. New Heights: After winning the MIT NH made it to the quarterfinals of the AC Showcase. They have a lot of talent but can’t seem to get past Team IZOD. They still might have a chance to get into the Grand Finale after a good showing at the MDC.

7. DC Assault: DCA was a last minute pull out during the AC Showcase. We might have a chance to run into them later on this summer.

8. East Coast Elite: ECE has some talent but we are waiting for them to put everything together. We will definitely keep our eye out for this bunch.

9. 6th Man Warriors: This squad shows a lot of fight while playing on this brutal 13U circuit. They are definitely a team you can’t sleep on.

10. CT Elite: They got their squad back together and were able to advance to the quarterfinals of the AC Showcase. Now let’s see where they go from here.

Basketball Spotlight 12U Top 10 Presented By AGame Team Apparel

The 12U Rankings has a new #1 after the AC Showcase. Remember this Top 10 is just our opinion and should be taken as such.

Basketball Spotlight 12U Top 10 Presented By AGame Team Apparel

1. Team IZOD: The “Fly Guys” lost in the finals of the AC Showcase but their body of work speaks for itself. 2 Spotlight championships with 4 total championship game appearances. This means if they enter the tournament they are a safe bet to make the finals.

2. KSK: King Street fell in the final four at the AC Showcase. DCA is nibbling on their heels for that #2 spot.

3. DC Assault: I told you it was a matter of time before they exploded and it happened at the AC Showcase. This talented bunch pulled it all together and snatched the championship in America’s Playground. They made one of the biggest leaps of the season but they are that good.

4. Riverside Hawks: RH knocked off a few good teams as they made it to the final four before losing to nemesis Team IZOD. Now they must concentrate on winning their regionals and making at run at the nationals.

5. Playtime Panthers: After some inspired play PP fell in the quarterfinals of the AC Showcase to DCA.

6. Mass Shooting Stars: They made their Orange Division debut and showed they could hang with the elite.

7. ECE: Took a big drop after going 1-2 at the AC Showcase. They still should have enough points to make it to the final four. We will see after the MDC.

8. New Rens: NR has been on a hiatus since the Clash For The Cup. They were a virtual lock for the Grand Finale but now that seems to be slipping away.

9. Wall 2 Wall: I must say I underestimated this group when placing them in the Blue Division in AC. Now I will see if they are ready to tangle with the big boys.

10. RIP City: They made their Spotlight debut in AC and advanced to the quartefinals. They have the capability to become a dangerous team.

The #1 team in the region held it down after the AC Showcase. Remember this Top 10 is just our opinion and should be taken as such.

Basketball Spotlight 11U Top 10 Presented By AGame Team Apparel

1. ECE-NJABC- After winning the AC Showcase few can argue that they are indeed the #1 team in the region. They have 3 banners under the belt and look like the favorite to win the Grand Championship in June. That will be for all the marbles.

2. Playtime Panthers- Playtime was idle during the AC Showcase and is currently playing in the 12U state tournament. They have pretty much clinched a spot in the final four as the #2 seed.

3. Team Nelson- TN jumps to #3 after making a final run during the AC Showcase. A deep run during the MDC might propel them to the #2 seed for the Grand Finale.

4. New Rens-
NR also didn’t make the trip to AC. I think their inactivity might cause them to miss out on the Grand Finale. But we will see if they show up at the MDC.

5. Team Takeover: Team Takeover got their first taste of the Spotlight and ran into some tough times. But their overall body of work still has them in the Top 5.

6. New Heights: I told you guys I thought this team was still dangerous and they proved me right by making it to the finals of the AC Showcase. If they represent at the MDC they might have a chance of party crashing the Grand Finale.

7. DC Assault: They made a final four during their Spotlight debut in Atlantic City. It was good to finally see this team in action. We look forward to watching them again soon.

8. CJ Hawks: The Hawks recently won a AAU Super Regional. We will see them in action at the MDC.

9. Mid Jersey Mavericks: This group won the Blue Division at the AC Showcase in impressive fashion. Hopefully we will see them again in the fire.

10. Team Rebels: TR has been noticeably off the scene for the last few events. Hopefully they can return to action very soon because they have talent.

Diary Of A Baller: Tyus "Kid Mamba" Battle (Edison, NJ) Entry #33

Tyus Escorts Step Mother Down The Aisle

Monday was a really great day to be at home and on vacation. During the day I hung out at home with my brother and just watched television and surfed the internet. My parents were at work so we did have a little extended time on Play Station. My dad is not a big fan of video games. He does not mind if you play for an hour or 2 but if you begin to spend to much time playing he gets a little crazy.

Tuesday I went to the gym to get a few shots up. My dad and I have been working on improving my foot work on and my release on my jump shot. It has really been challenging for me to change my release. I went from a knock down shooter to just streaky one. The key is to keep working on it for me and to remain confident and positive.

Wednesday I was at my mom’s house and i got very sick with a cold. That same evening I went home with a sore throat and a very aching body. Over the next few days all I did was lay home in bed with very little energy. I was really concerned about not working out the remainder of the week because I knew we had a 16U State tournament coming up on Saturday and I am not able to work out and I was feeling horrible.

Thursday morning I was feeling about the same as I had been feeling Tuesday night and Wednesday. My dad really takes care of me when I am sick but there is nobody like my mom when I am not feeling well. By the afternoon I was feeling better and by the evening I was feeling pretty good.

Friday came fast and my brother and I went to the movies with some friends from school. I went to see the movie The Cabin In The Woods and I cannot say I would recommend it. It was not a good movie at all! My dad and step mom were gone all day so since it was Friday my brother and I played video games for a few hours and we had fun.

Saturday morning I had to get up early to head to the Life Center to play with Team Final.. The game we played was a complete blowout, especially once we got rolling. I played terrible and I had no energy at all! Maybe I took 2 shots and made one. After the game my dad pressed me about how I felt and I told him I wanted to play the afternoon game and felt I could help the team. I felt even worse in that game and for the first time since I have been playing basketball, I had to ask to come out of the game. I have allergies and when I have a cold it makes it challenging during the Spring.. Before the next game at 6:45 Khalif, my dad and I went over my dad’s friends house to relax and dad gave me a much needed pep talk about life and its challenges and the easy road vs hard road. The bottom line is that my dad really believes in me as a person and basketball is just a small part of what life is all about.

Saturday evening’s game went much better. I hit a few 3 point jump shots and had back to back steals for lay-ups. My wind was a little better as well and we won the game by about 25 or so. My dad and brother both said I played well and I played great team ball. I was proud of myself because I did not feel to good and battled back. The other boys played really well, Chiz, JR, Fresh, Malik ,Sam, Trevon, Manny and last but not least Daren. Chiz had a nasty dunk on a fast break that brought the house down and JR and Fresh played lights out all day.

Sunday we played in the quarter finals after going undefeated in the first 4 games and we won by 14 points. I must say I felt much better although not quite myself just yet. I felt I played Okay although my dad said he was proud of me. I rebounded well and scored about 10 points with 2 blocks and 2 steals. My dad said it was a team effort and that our strength as a team is our depth as a unit..

Thanks, mom and dad for taking those long drives from New Jersey to PA. Thanks Khalif! I know it is hard watching me play while you stand on the sideline but I will do the same for you. Thanks coach Aaron for sticking with me..

Peace everyone, this is Tyus Battle signing off..

AC Showcase 14U Top Performers

Tremont Waters (CT Elite)

The 14U Division gave us some highlights with some highly competitive games. Here’s a list of standouts that put in work at this event.

AC Showcase 14U Top Performers Part 1

Tremont Waters Guard (CT Elite)- There are some spectacular point guards in the region and Waters has to be listed among them. He dazzled the crowds in AC with his shear ball handling and ability to score the pill. He hit ECE for 24 points including 6 treys, while also dropping 19 in their semifinal loss to the Gauchos. He’s one of the hottest names in the region right now.

NyRhique Smith Guard (CT Elite)- That’s right Smith made a special trip down and suited up with Waters in the backcourt. The talented combo guard also gave the crowd a treat while showing his all around game. He netted 22 points versus ECE and 21 points in the semifinal loss to the Gauchos. I wonder if we might get another chance to see this backcourt in action during the MDC.

Armanie Craddock Guard (Gauchos)- Craddock improved outside shot paid dividends in helping the Choz win the crown. He knocked down 3 treys in their championship win versus St. Michaels and looked comfortable coming around the screens. He was able to score some big buckets.

Patrick Stryzala Forward (St. Michaels)- This kid is making a solid case for Player of The Year consideration. He killed the competition in AC posting over 20 points each outing. His versatility including the ability to shoot treys continues to baffle defenders on this level. His team did not win the title but he did carry them to the finals.

Idris Joyner Forward (Gauchos)- The reigning POY made his Spotlight season debut with the Gauchos and didn’t disappoint. His play in the post helped him earn 14 points versus St. Mikes and 16 points in a blow out win over Rock Elite. He reunited with his old squad and helped them grab their first banner.

Stevie Jordan Guard (Team Philly)- Jordan had his breakout moment during their battle with the Gauchos. With his team trailing at halftime Jordan went berserk with 21 second half points to finish with 28 markers. His team ended up losing the game but Stevie’s play earned the respect of his peers, fans and opposing coaches.

Anthony Munson Guard (New Heights)- Munson played his first event with NH but brought over his scoring ways from the Ironmen. He averaged close to 14 points a game including a game-high 16 markers versus MJ Heat. This kid definitely has a scorer’s mentality especially when attacking.

Sa’eed Nelson Guard (NJ Shore Shots)- It’s been a while since Nelson played in the Spotlight and he made the most of his return. He posted 16 points in his first outing and another 18 markers the second time he took the floor. His quickness is one of his best weapons and he uses it frequently.

Marques Drakeford Guard (New Heights)- Drakeford has been a mainstay with this club and very consistent. This weekend he led the team in scoring including a 21 point outburst against NY rival Milbank.

Marcus McClary Guard (St. Michaels)- McClary helped his tag team partner Stryzala in their march to the finals. In their pool lay win over the Gauchos he posted 20 points while showing his all around play throughout the tournament. The lefty rarely takes plays off.

AC Showcase 13U Top Performers Part 2

Nate Pierre Louis (Team IZOD)

The 13U Division ad some of the usual suspects putting in work at the Spotlight. Here’s Part 2 of our report of the top performers from Atlantic City.

AC Showcase 13U Top Performers Part 2

Nate Pierre Louis Guard (Team IZOD)- Nate “The Great” started out hot in Atlantic City posting 25 points apiece in his first two outings. His pull up jumper and baseline fade away looked pretty on the main floor. On day 2 after helping is team gut out a victory over New Heights he ran out of bullets versus Milbank in the final four.

David Kachleries Guard (Team IZOD)- David was on his game during this event. He was difficult to trap and saw the floor like a true guard. We’ve seen his confidence in his outside shot continue to rise these last few years. He competed very hard the entire weekend. His best game was a 14 point outing in their quarterfinal win over New Heights.

Matt Kachleries Guard (Team IZOD)- Matt also found the limelight especially during their game versus CT Elite. He torched the net for 20 points while being very productive from behind the arc. IZOD will need Matt to step up if they expect to return to the glory of last season.

Cameron Norman Guard (6th Man)- Norman continues to show they he’s one of the most complete guards in the region. He posted big numbers all weekend including an 18 points (4 trey) outing against Team Final. Mark my words he will be a serious problem for years to come.

Travis Cox Forward (Black Mamba’s)- According to reports Cox totally dominated the Blue Division. In one of their blow out wins he scored 24 points in one half. I didn’t get a chance watch him personally but I will soon. Promise you.

JP Sanders Guard (Team Final)- The strong lead guard helped Team Final make another final four run. He’s still in the learning process of running a team but makes up for it by being able to score the basketball. He as truly made some good strides during this Spotlight season.

Nick Alikasos Forward (Team Final)- Nick found his rhythm in their victory over 6th Man Warriors. Nick’s ability to face the basket and put the rock on the floor gives him an advantage over many defenders. He posted 16 points in the game we mentioned earlier.

Chris Coalman Forward (New Heights)- Coalman was a walking double-double. He posted 11 points a game while being very active inside. His length and quick leaping ability makes him a constant threat on the floor.

Donald Flores Guard (New Heights)- Flores provided a lot of the scoring for this bunch. He mainly attacks off the bounce and finishes well in the lane. He fits the bill of former New Height’s guards in terms of being strong and blue collared.

Kingsley Cockburn Guard (CT Elite)- Pruitt was a bright spot for CT Elite. He gracefully danced through the defense for buckets while also showing style. We will definitely be on the look out for more of his work at our next event.

AC Showcase 13U Top Performers Part 1

Jaecee "Mayweather" Martin (CBC)

The 13U Division ad some of the usual suspects putting in work at the Spotlight. Here’s Part 1 of our report of the top performers from Atlantic City.

AC Showcase 13U Top Performers Part 1

Jaecee Martin Guard (CBC)- “Mayweather” shined bright in Atlantic City. During the finals with the game tied in the closing moments Martin went on a personal 7-0 run to close the deal. He switched gears on Milbank and took his game to yet another level. This is the “Money Team” second banner and Mayweather has distant himself from any other POY candidates. Right now it’s his trophy to lose.

Shyheim Hicks Guard (CBC)- When Hicks first arrived at the “Money Team” he appeared to be a little uncomfortable about his role. But during this event he played with that fire and determination that had us raving about him during his CT Elite days. He stretched put for easy buckets in traffic and put up decent numbers. He must continue of this level for CBC to chase the national crown.

Azur Swain Guard (CBC)- The title game was a heavy weight bout and Swain stood right in there and battled. He’s one of the most confidence shooters in the region and will pull the trigger from anywhere in the gym. He knocked down 2 treys in their win over Milbank.

Chaylyn Martin Guard (CBC)- Martin’s job is to shut down the leading scorer of the opposing squad and he relishes in it. He’s a ball hawker that also plays the passing lanes. On offense he fits in well running the lanes and finishing off plays.

Tyrese Whitaker Guard (Milbank)- This crafty guard helps direct traffic and can score using a floater. He uses his witty ways to fend off bigger and stronger defenders. He has adapted well to this level of basketball and knows how to win.

Paul Person Guard (Milbank)- P-Double game stood out in AC. The few inches he added to his frame allow him to absorb contact when finishing. His breakdown ability off the dribble is very apparent while he attacks at will. Right now he’s in the driver’s seat as the best lead guard in Big Apple’s Class of 2017.

Keshaun Ellis Guard (Milbank)- Ellis is built to score the pill and does it well. He finds gaps in the defense and attacks the hole like the late Walter Payton. Once he’s moving forward it’s very difficult for any defenders to slow him down. He’s the 3rd guard in “The Bank” trio of madness.
