Clash For The Cup Recap: 14U Top Performers Part 2

Devonte "The Chef" Green (Team Scan)

The Clash For The Cup 14U Division had more talent than ever in Neptune, NJ. These youngsters went toe to toe all weekend and had the atmosphere at an all time high.

Clash For The Cup 14U Top Performers Part 1

Devonte Green Guard (Team Scan)- It was Green’s weekend to shine. Playing varsity basketball has him performing at another level and speed. He posted 20 against Philly Triple Threat, 25 against Playaz in the semifinal and 27 in their narrow loss to DC Assault in the final. His play earned him a nickname Devonte “The Chef” Green because he cooked the defense all weekend.

Joe Hampton Forward (DC Assault)- Hampton was Mr. double-double all weekend. His hands, footwork and soft touch makes him so poised in the post, while also being able to step out knock down the three ball behind the arc. He reminds me of a David Robinson type in a smaller frame but equally efficient. Some ranking systems have him high in this class.

Matthew Bullock Forward (KSK)- Matthew is eager to show his perimeter skills and did an excellent job this weekend. He found his stroke against Team Final by knocking down 3 treys in route to 18 points. It wasn’t that he knocked down the shots but how comfortable he looked shooting the pill.

Temple Gibbs Guard (Team Scan)-Gibbs continued his hot play by posting good numbers. He averaged 15 points a game including 18 markers against ECE. He’s in the running for Player Of The Year Honors and this weekend helped his chances of gaining the award.

Donovan Love Guard (Playaz)- Love made his Spotlight debut with the Playaz and had some impressive moments. The lefty has a scorer’s mentality and an aggressive attitude when attacking the lane. His game and body type reminds of Isaiah Epps a former Playaz standout that now attends The University Of Pittsburgh.

Bryce Aiken Guard (Team Scan)- “Capo” played within himself all weekend and almost helped his squad take home another crown. He’s expected to step up in the biggest moments and for the most part he delivers. He helped knocked YAAACE out in the quarterfinals with 16 points and the Playaz in the final four with 13 markers.

Rakym Felder Guard (New Rens)- “The Bully” made his return to the Spotlight and put for the effort to get things done. He’s known as a scorer and lived up to his reputation. He posted double figures in the scoring column each time out though his team took some tough lumps.

Justin Leip Guard (Mass Shooting Stars)- Justin controlled the tempo and guided his team to the finals of the Blue Division. He also showed he can stick the jumper while draining many 3 pointers over the weekend. He has shined in previous Basketball Spotlight events.

Ako Adams Guard (DC Assault)- Sometime Adams gets over shined by his teammates but this weekend he made some clutch plays. He’s smart enough to play within the offense and scoring most his points by slashing. He had some big buckets.
