Tyler Brelsford (DC Assault)
The Potomac Valley AAU District Championship is in full swing and Basketball Spotlight was in the building. On the second day we got a chance to check out a heated contest with DC Assault and Team Takeover 10U squads. Here’s a look at the Baby Ballers that impressed us.
Top Performers (Baby Ballers)
Tyler Brelsford Guard (DC Assault)- This youngster is definitely the quarterback for this team. He pushes the rock with his head raised while surveying the floor for teammates. But when his team needs some points he’s also capable of putting the ball in the hole. The reigning Mr. Memorial Day finished with 13 points, 7 boards and 4 dimes.
Mike Sumner Guard (DC Assault)- Brelsford’s backcourt mate handles most of the scoring duty. He as a nice outside stroke but what really caught my eye was the fact that he cuffs the rock when charging the lane. The fact that he understands to cradle the pill shows me that he’s an advanced 4th grader. He finished with a game high 14 points.
Jay Heath Forward (DC Assault)- Heath is a versatile youngster. He plays with a lot of energy when hitting the glass and running the floor. He’s a good finisher and uses his quickness to play defense.
Jabari Davis Guard (DC Assault)- The point guard gave this squad some energy off the bench. He played intense full court defense and forced a few turnovers. Offensively, he handles the pill with some quickness and flair.
Jaamir Butler Forward (Team Takeover)- Butler had a good game against Assault. He hit a few jumpers including a 3 pointer. I also like the way he hit the boards and scored on put backs. He really brought his game.
Jahmir Young Guard (Team Takeover)- You have to love this kid’s game. The southpaw is a showman in the open floor and dazzled the crowd with some of his moves. When TT raced out to an early lead it was Young igniting the engine.
