Diary Of A Baller: Otis "The General" Livingston (NJ Got Game) Entry #14
What’s going on everyone?,
It’s “The General” coming at you with a New Year’s edition of my diary. My resolutions for this year are to become an even better student and an even better leader for the teams I play on.
This past week it was snowing a lot so I couldn’t go outside or to a gym because the snow was too deep. I just watched a lot a basketball and did some physical workouts. I watched UCONN’s Kemba Walker and my buddy Ashton Gibbs of Pittsburgh play each other. I like watching both of them. They are both tough ball players. Kemba likes to get out in transition and Ashton likes to run plays and get a shot off of it. I like playing both styles especially running.
I tried to use some of what I saw in my middle school game against Orange. They were a team of athletic, big guys that could run the floor. But we used our own quickness and teamwork to beat them. It’s fun playing with my SOMS team cause we’ve been together for 3 years now and know what each other is gonna do before we do it. I did pushups, sit ups, lunges, and I used the medicine ball to do some ab work. I just basically did that for most of the break. On Friday and Saturday I had Got Game practice. We worked on some plays that we added to our arsenal. We worked on defense and talking on both ends of the floor. I think in order to win games, we need to be smarter and communicate more. Coach Pete stressed that a lot at practice. Our team saw the benefits of talking and how it makes it easier to play knowing your teammate has your back. I KNOW we will be better this season. We have the players and we definitely have the coaching.
Over the weekend we attended the St. Pat’s game against Trenton Catholic. It was a physical, hard fought game. St. Pat’s was in control the whole way, but TC didn’t stop playing. It’s all about competing till the final buzzer no matter what. It got me souped to think I’ll be playing at that level in the near future. I did go home and bust out some pushups and situps because I definitely need to get stronger. This week I have a couple games for South Orange Middle school as we try to continue on the road to an undefeated season.
I’ll let you know how it goes next week and how things are going in school next week.
For now it’s a wrap,
Otis “The General” Livingston Jr.
