Dakari Johnson Catching National Attention
I might have spoken too soon calling Jackson Davis the best prospect in Kentucky. 6’8 8th Grader Dakari Johnson is putting together a terrific summer on the 15U Level. He has been hitting the circuit with the Gauchos and putting in work. In April he played well at the Boo Williams Invitational and at King James Classic. ESPN recruiting service had scouts at both events and here’s what they wrote.
Reggie Rankin Of ESPN (Boo Williams Report)
Looking into the future in the 15-under division, some special talent was on hand. Most notably, Dakari Johnson of the New York Gauchos impressed us. He has a huge body with an enormous wingspan, good hands and the skill to score. It was impressive to watch him put the ball on the floor. We also were impressed by small forwards Wayne Selden of BABC and Tadric Jackson of the Georgia Stars.
Paul Biancardi Of ESPN (King James Report)
The New York Gauchos are one of the most storied summer programs in the country. Their U15 team is very good and features, what has to be, one of the top eighth graders in the country: Dakari Johnson, a 6-8, 225-pound post player who dominated at times during the tournament playing against kids a year older than him. He scores and rebounds inside like a grown man already! Look for big things in the future from this native of Kentucky.
