Diary Of A Baller: Jalen "Young One" Henriquez (New Jersey) Entry # 17

Hello Basketball World,

This week has been good for me. I've been off from school all week because of the crazy weather, the rain and wind have been knocking trees down everywhere and a few houses and cars were crushed. Besides that everything is going great. AAU started, we had tryouts and because I had not played in so long I was anxious to play. During scrimmages I dove on floor after loose ball and banged my knee on the floor. After that my coach told me to stay off which I wasn’t too happy about. All of my 15u teammates have been split up for the high school season so for us to get back together as one team was great. We also picked up two more kids at try outs that should be good editions to our team. A few people got cut from last year’s team. There were a few high school coaches there coming to watch their players during try outs. It was also a bit funny to see the happiness in all my teammates returning from their high school seasons to get back to AAU. Not because of playing time, but because of the way the different high school coaches run their programs, a few friends of mine were not happy with their high school basketball and very glad to get back to the “Coach Ozzie” style of play.

Tuesday we had our first practice, a lot of guys were tired for different reasons. Not being in the gym for a while and working as hard as Coach Ozzie pushes us is very hard to do. The 15u and the 17u practice together, playing against them prepares us great physically and especially me for high school next year. But as we start getting back into the groove of practice three times a week everyone should be back into that Gym Rat shape. Our first tournament is about a month away, April 16th in Pittsburgh. I can't wait to get back on the hardwood and just ball. The rest of this week will be practices and getting ready for the AAU season ahead.
