Team NJ ABC Wins Title
Kenny Virden scored 16 pts and Vic Singh added 14 markers as Team NJ ABC ran past a young Jersey Jayhawks squad 63-39 to win the Hoop Group Columbus Day Tournament. Ian Rohde finished with a team high 19 points for Jersey Jayhawks in the loss.
Spotlight Players
Kenny Virden Guard (Team NJ ABC)- Virden spent the day strong to the basket and tossing a few nice passes. He’s very strong on this level but as a frosh he needs to improve his ability to drive hard to the left side of the floor. This is very vital at the guard spot.
Ian Rohde Forward (Jersey Jayhawks)- Ian looked like a young Christian Laettner during his Duke days. He kept the more athletic defenders off balance because the kid can also put the rock on the floor. He scores inside and has some versatility and cleverness to his game. Don’t sleep on this kid or he will make you pay for it when it hurts.
Matt Sandoval Guard (Team NJ ABC)- Matt had a solid outing. He’s a table setter but also likes to pull the trigger on his jumper. He has a behind the head release that he will need to improve on once his high school season starts.
Brian Horn Guard (Jersey Jayhawks)- Horn had his ups and downs in the finals but when you consider that he was a true 7th Grader running the point against pressing freshmen you have to give him the benefit of the doubt. I like Horn’s poise and his court vision. I can see him doing some damage against his own grade level.
