Marsalis Johnson Threw Down A Dunk Today!
After I covered the first 2 games I took a stroll around the Boo Williams Center to check for some big time talent. I came upon many top players from around the country. Here’s a breakdown of some of the top players I ran into today.
Day 1 Top Performers
Marsalis Johnson Center (ARC Gorillas)- Standing 6’5 Johnson was a total monster on the floor. He intimidates opponents from the outset by blocking shots and scoring with ease. His wing span is tremendous already and he battles like an undersized rebounder. Marsalis runs the floor like a guard and is a serious force once the ball is thrown up. To top his day off Johnson gave me the privilege of seeing a 12 and Under player dunk for the first time. He caught his big time flush on a fast break.
Tyler Dorsey Guard (ARC Gorillas)- Dorsey is a smooth, big time wing guard. He creates off the dribble and loves hitting that floater in the lane or scoring at the cup. Dorsey also hit the glass today leading the squad with 16 rebounds. Once he gets out into the open floor he usually glides to the goal. I was also told that he going to play in the 11 and Under Nationals, that’s scary!
Parker Cartwright Guard (ARC Gorillas)- I got a chance to check out my boy Parker again. He looked good running the point with these studs. He showed me the other side of his game in terms of running a club and getting his teammates involved. He made all the right decisions when he had the pill. Cartwright's a true floor general.
Quenten Snyder Guard (Kentucky Tarheels)- Snyder ran an efficient point. His court vision stands out loudly. Once he dribble drives his teammates better ready or they will get a Spalding mark on their face. On one play he grabbed a rebound and hit his teammates with a no look dime before landing on the floor. He knows how to make everyone better.
Brandon Scott-Hatton Guard (Kentucky Tarheels)- Brandon knows how to put the ball in the basket. The strong combo guard gets it done from deep, mid range and at the rim. He has some serious swagger to his game and will hit defenders with an array of moves to get past them. He has a nose for the ball and wants to the rock when things are tight.
Thomas Holley Forward (LI Trotters)- Holley went wild in the Trotters game vs. Team Texas. Inside he feasted on the opposition scoring 26 points while defenders where hanging all over him. Thomas a great touch for post player while understands that his bread and butter is on the blocks. He scores at will.
Sheppard Gardner Guard (Team Nelson)- Gardner stepped up big time. He had the ball in his hands when crunch time came and carried his boys to the victory. The well built guard has enough handle to get past defenders than uses his frame to absorb contact while attempting buckets. He has good body control and knows how to get to the charity stripe.
