Playaz Blow UP 14U Recap: Playaz Get Past Team Philly
Myles Davis scored a game high 27 points as the Playaz Basketball Club defeated Team Philly 48-41 to win the 14 and Under crown at the PBC Blow Up Tourney. Amile Jefferson and Andre Horne combined for 34 points in the loss.
Championship Game Standouts
Montana Mayfield Guard (Playaz)- Mayfield was a little quiet in the final but his play during the tourney especially the semifinal earned him MVP honors. In the semifinal against MSU Mayfield put PBC on his back at the end of regulations and throughout both overtime periods. The lefty made some crisp moves to the bucket and finished in traffic sometimes with defenders draped on him.
Myles Davis Guard (Playaz)- Davis showed for the championship with a cape on and delivered. He buried 3 treys and had numerous drives to the cup. Throughout the spring he has been playing 15 and Under and you could tell because the way he was able to absorb contact while finishing at the cup. When things got a little tight we went on a scoring streak that PBC breathing room.
Dallas Anglin Guard (Playaz)- Anglin is an excellent athlete that excels when he out in transition finishing off the break. He has a quick first step and can finish above the rim. On the next level he will have to improve his outside and creating off the dribble.
Kyle Anderson Guard (Playaz)- Anderson also made a championship appearance. He didn’t score any points but he did make his presence felt by hitting the boards and hitting Davis for his open looks.
Amile Jefferson Forward (Team Philly)- Amile “The Real Deal” Jefferson came to play at the Blow Up. The wiry forward displayed an array of post moves and soft touch that allowed him to score with ease at times. He does have to get stronger in the upper body so he doesn’t have to make himself smaller when attempting his sweeping spin move. Jefferson also showed he could handle the pill a little. Defensively he blocked shots and hit the boards heavily.
Karon Davis Guard (Team Philly)- Davis deserves big time credit because he was Team Philly primary ball handler all weekend during the sweltering heat. He’s very steady running the club and doesn’t try to do anything outside of his job.
Andre Horne Guard (Team Philly)- Horne was very productive attacking the cup from the perimeter. He now a slashing guard that punishes defenders with his strength and body control. Horne also helped out on the boards because of Team Philly’s depleted roster. I like how he has transformed his game to the perimeter.
