Playaz Blow Up 13U Recap: Playaz Blew Up!
Reggie Cameron scored 16 points and Matthew Johnson added 11 markers as the Playaz Basketball Club defeated DC Assault to win the 13 and Under title at the PBC Blow Up. Melo Trumbell led DC Assault with 18 points including 3 treys.
Championship Game Standouts
Matthew Johnson Guard (Playaz)- Johnson once again put together a stellar tournament at the point position. He controlled the tempo, directing traffic and was very verbal towards his teammates. He displayed precision passing, tremendous ball pressure and though his shot was spotty the improvement in his technique is very evident. He showed how you can dominant the game without scoring the most points.
Kavon Stewart Guard (Playaz)- Johnson’s backcourt mate reminds me so much of Nick Van Exel. He gets to the basket with ease and can hit the mid range shot off the dribble. He also loves roaming the passing lanes on defense.
Reggie Cameron Forward (Playaz)- Cameron caught fire on the perimeter because of the Playaz guards penetration. He made the defense pay with deep shots and used his size to also convert near the cup.
Josh Marquez Forward (Playaz)- The blue collar forward plays hard defense and will contribute when giving the chance on offense. He’s often guarding taller players but doesn’t back down on either end of the floor.
Melo Trumbell Guard (DC Assault)- There wasn’t a better perimeter shooter in this division. Melo can instantly change a game wit his outside stroke. He hit 6 treys in the semifinals and kept it going during the finals knocking down 4.
Tre Bourne Forward (DC Assault)- I like this kids potential and the determination he brings to the game. He’s very long, athletic and has the knack off scoring. If you leave the baseline pen he’s going for a deuce.
EJ Levenberry Forward (DC Assault)- EJ is like a bull on the floor. His physical mass allows him to bang around opponents and get good position for rebounds. He can be intimidating at times.
