Jr. All American Camp: Friday Night Report Class 2012

Savon Goodman Had The Goods Friday Night

Basketball Spotlight arrived at the Jr. All American Friday night and I must say it is loaded with talent. We got a chance to look at players from every grade level and here’s a look at the 2012 studs.

Class 2012 Standouts

Savon Goodman 6’4 Forward (Philadelphia, PA)- I got the chance to see Savon at his best. The youngster impressed me with the way he played with intensity on both ends of the floor. He moved his feet well on defense, hit the glass and pushed the pill up the floor. Goodman has a nose for the pill and refused to be denied when trying to convert in the blocks.

Javon Felix 5’10 Guard (New Orleans, LA)- I know DJ Augustine was from New Orleans and this kid must have studied his game. Felix is built similar to Augustine and loves to penetrate and pull up mid dribble like the former Texas U star. To his own credit Javon demanded the rock and handled his business.

Hanner Perea 6’8 Forward (Culver, IN)- Perea was a shot blocking and rebounding force inside. He stands 6’8 to the dismay of many offensive players. Perea post moves are developing and will be a name you will hear about nationally very soon.

Eric Shaw 6'4 Forward (Colts Neck, NJ)- Shaw showed he belonged with the big boys. He made some good moves near the lower blocks and added a few put backs. I like the poise he showed at a high level event such as this.

Ricardo Gathers 6’6 Forward (New Orleans, LA)- Physically there’s no one in the building (including counselors) that can stop Gathers from doing his thing on the blocks. He’s a monster on the boards and scored at will when he received the ball in the post. He prefers the turnaround off the glass.

Thaddeus Hall 6’4 Guard (New York, NY)- Hall impressed me the most with his court vision and effort he gave defensively. We all know he can score but this top notch athlete showed the scouts some important other parts of his game.

Zaire Williams 5’9 Guard (Paterson, NJ)- Williams showed good poise at this national event. He used his speed and smartness to keep defenders at bay while he made his moves. He had the mid range shot falling.

Jordan Washington 5’11 Guard (Irving, TX)- Washington is a powerful guard with explosive ability especially in the open floor. He has a strong upper body and knows how to finish in traffic. He also knows how to beat defenders off the dribble.

Braxton Ogbueze 6’1 Guard (Jamestown, NC)- This kid is a serious lead guard that had defenders at his mercy when attacking them. He has a quick first step and sharp ball handling skills.

Rodney Purvis 6’2 Guard (Raleigh, NC)- Purvis can flat out score the pill. He’s a very smooth wing guard that can stop and pop or leave a defender in the dust with swift drives. His size and skill set helps him get where he wants on the floor.
