Inside The MDC: 13 and Under Part 1 (It Went Down!)

The 13 and Under Division was the most interesting in the MDC. We had the two time champs dethroned, a game going into 3 overtimes and team getting disqualified from the championship game. Through all of this there were some big time players and good match ups. Here’s a breakdown of what happened and the Best Of The MDC.

Trenton Hurricanes Champions?

Yes, the Hurricanes lost in the semifinals to New Heights Red but after New Heights potential championship opponent NY Panthers protested one of the MDC rules concerning New Heights Red, NHR were ruled ineligible for the finals. The Hurricanes then were rewarded the championship spot and pulled off a 66-57 victory over the NY Panthers to win the crown.

Is This Game Over Yet?

This was the theme when Delaware Hawks and Linden Ballers locked up for a classic duel that latest 3 overtimes. The see-saw battle was fierce but in the end the Linden Ballers found a way to get it done with a 64-62 win. This was definitely the game of the tourney in the 13 and Under Bracket.

2 Time Champ Falls!

The Educated Athletes came in one of the favorites in this division after winning the crown the previous two years. Things looked their way early on as they blew away New Heights White by 60 points. In their second game a sneaky NY Panthers stayed around long enough to take the game into overtime before knocking off the defending champs by 2.

Best Of The MDC 13 and Under:

Best Coach: Craig “The Kat” Keyes (NY Panthers)- Keyes coached in two age groups and still was able to make it to the championship. He knocked off some heavy weights in the process including (Educated Athletes and Long Island Lightning).

Best Game: Delaware Hawks vs. Linden Ballers (Read Above)

Best Shooter: Joe Feinberg (Trenton Hurricanes) and Brian Kruger (NY Panthers)- Both players were incredible from behind the arc. Leave either one open and you can put 3 in the book.

Best Surprise: Trenton Hurricanes, they always competed hard but were not expected to bring home the crown. They played their best ball at the right time.

Best Athlete: Dave “Kangaroo” Henry (LI Lightning)- Henry had the crowd in a frenzy with his leaping ability on both ends of the floor.

Best Prospect: Jason Boswell (Li Lightning)- Every time I watch this kid play there something about his game that tells me he can have a serious future. His potential is oozing.
