Inside The MDC: 12 and Under Division Part 2 (Road To The Gold)
Team Underrated Came, Saw and Conquered The MDC!
We featured some of the top scorers in the 12 and Under Division but I think a lot of this field focus should be on the teams. There were some good games in this bracket and some quality squads emerged at the end.
Here’s The Final Four!
Team Underrated: The boys from Long Island came in with a National name on the Div. 2level. Their size and versatility of their wing players helped them break through. They ran through pool play before running into a tough semifinal battle with Youth Interlock (Team Nelson). Andre Edwards’s bunch hung on to win before knocking off King Street Kings in the finals.
King Street Kings: The Jersey State Champs have no need to hang their heads because they also cruised through pool play before knocking off a vastly improved Playaz Basketball Club. In the finals their ball control, defensive minded strategy wasn’t enough for the high scoring Team Underrated.
Youth Interlock: The Chester boys represented well from the Quaker State. The got to the semifinals after outlasting perhaps the toughest pool in the field. In the semifinal they ran into a tough Long Island bunch. I would love to see them get it on again.
Playaz: Damon Wright’s squad came in with not much swagger, but the additions of Isiah Brisoce and Nassir Barrino would boast any squad. Like true Playaz they advanced to the semifinals but ran out of gas versus KSK.
Divine Intervention For The MDC?
In the 11th hour New Heights Red dropped out the MDC. This left me scrambling to find a 12 and Under Squad which is a very difficult age group. I searched every where to no avail. Then I got a call from one of my comrades that told me about God’s Property from Delaware. The coach from God’s Property agreed to cancel his trip and come to the MDC. I would like to thank him again for responding in short notice.
Best Of The MDC 12 and Under:
Best Shooter: Gary Baumer (CJ Jammers)- This kid was totally unconscious from behind the arc during the tournament. Point Guard Jake Dadika knows how to Gary up for wide open looks.
Best Surprise- Team Underrated, I got word they were good but to knock off KSK and Youth Interlock was an impressive feat.
Best Uniforms: Youth Interlock, I was feeling the Team Nelson hook up. It was very colorful and had the comfortable, baggy look.
Best Game: Team Underrated vs. Youth Interlock it came down to the wire like big time games are supposed to.
