Baby Ballerz Impressive At 12U Div. 2 State Tourney
Livingston Made Things Happen
The 12U Division State Tourney gave me a chance to check out some of the top 11U talent in NJ. Some players made a name for themselves while others showed they were worth the hype.
Otis Livingston Guard (KSK)- Livingston showed tremendous heart and talent in their game against CJ Future Stars. He got anywhere he wanted on the floor and made some good decisions with the rock. On the defensive end he was one of the KSK guards that caused a lot of havoc.
Mike Runcie Guard (KSK)- Before making the game winner in the finals Runcie was effective in the quarterfinals. He was able to put the rock on the floor and create opportunities for his squad.
Austin Goodluck Forward (FACES)- I was impressed with Goodluck’s energy and play in their loss to Trenton B&G. He fought for position on the blocks and displayed some decent post moves. He played some inspired ball.
Kyle Phipps Guard (Linden Ballers)- The Ballers were in a dog fight with Bayshore but Phipps kept his composure at the point and helped them pull out the victory. He made sure they ran their sets while anchoring their defense on the other end.
Isiah Still Guard (Linden Ballers)- Still’s athleticism helped him make some key buckets down the stretch. He’s heard to guard at that size and can explode to the cup at times.
Miles Powell Guard (CJ Future Stars)- I heard about Powell balling skills and I must admit the chatter was well worth it. The youngster can create his own shot and shoot from anywhere in the gym. He has a lot of bounce in his game and uses a mixture of dribbles moves to get open.
Jack Byrnes Forward (Bayshore Bulldogs)- Jack was very aggressive during their battle with Linden. He handled the rock with purpose and attacked the cup at times.
Diary Of A Baller: Kyle Anderson Entry #13
Wassup Everyone, this is Kyle Anderson signing in on my weekly entry. I believe last week I couldn't get out my diary until Tuesday night and I told everyone what went down last Monday and Tuesday. This entry is going to start my week on Wednesday.
Last week was Spring Break finally for me and I couldn't do much with my knee wrapped up but when I went to the Doctors on Thursday, he bent my knee back anf forth and I didn't have pain so he gave me the clearance to practice only, not play. I was tight :( but I practiced on Friday and my knee was soar but definitely improving. My weekend was not good watching from the sidelines. The best thing about the weekend was we won Providence and beat our arch rivals, New Heights. The series is tied 3-3, lol. Monday and Tuesday were my first legitimate days back and I spent them working out with Paterson Catholic, my High School team. I am really excited about my choice of high schools and the fact that I will be in High School finally. You people will see why I chose PC over Rice and St. Pats. I always get questioned about my choice but I am confident about my decision. I can finally walk in a gym without being asked what school I will be attending and having to say "IDK." That wraps up my week, nothing is planned for this weekend and I will get a chance to hang with my friends who always make jokes about my AAU weekends like "where did you go this weekend, China to play Godzilla?" LOL or "where are you going this weekend, the North Pole to play Santa Claus?" They don't get out much and have no idea what it's like to be a baller. I will let you know how my week goes next time.

Introducing: Nassir Barrino
The Barrino and Blackman family are known for producing big time guards that torch opponents in Newark, NJ. The latest edition of the offspring seems to be ready to carry the torch for another decade. His name is Nassir Barrino. I first laid eyes on Barrino as a bright eyed 8 year old launching deep bombs at the Zoo Crew Summer League. He’s now 11 and has grown a few inches while adding many facets to his game. This past weekend Nassir played with the NJ Pirates in the 12 and Under State Championship. His team didn’t get the win but it was very apparent that this youngster has the chance to be very special. Barrino is like an offensive explosion, he’s extremely quick off the dribble and will kill you with driving lay ups or deep treys. When he gets into traffic he also knows how to initial contact to get to the line. Defensively his speed and court awareness allows him to play the passing lanes and harass ball handlers. The one aspect that Nassir will need to work on is finishing with his left hand. He knows how to go hard with his left hand dribble but when he gets to the cup he uses his right to score. This should be an easy adjustment as he picks up strength.

12 and Under Division 1 Championship Recap: King Street Kings Outlast NJ Pirates
Nassir Barrino scored 27 points but it wasn’t enough as King Street Kings defeated the NJ Pirates 72-59 to win the NJ AAU 12 and Under Title. Quai Jefferson and Mike Silverton combined for 35 points for the champs.
Top Performers
Quai Jefferson Forward (KSK)- Jefferson finishes strong at the basket and has a football player type build. He usually caught the pass on the baseline at attacked from there. Once he muscled his way to the cup he used the proper english off the glass.
Mike Silverton Forward (KSK)- Mike was a serious force inside. He was very strong with the rock and controlled the glass on both ends. He has a nice face up shot with touch included. Mike will have to begin handling the rock more before he reaches high school.
Dylan Elliot Forward (KSK)- Elliot will linger inside but also likes to shoot the short jumper. He holds his position well on the floor and moves well in the offense. He’s a very fundamentally sound player.
Nassir Barrino Guard (NJ Pirates)- Barrino is a special talent that keeps the defense on their heels. He was able to get anywhere he wanted on the floor. You will be introduced to him shortly.
Al Jahaad Bradford Guard (NJ Pirates)- The smallest player in the gym played with enormous passion and drive. He got past defenders off the bounce and threw himself into the trees. He has the heart of a lion.
Isiaiah Briscoe Guard (NJ Pirates)- Isiaiah has some smoothness and flair to his game. He was able to make a few things happen going to the glass.
12 and Under Division II Championship Recap: King Street Kings 11’s Win At The Buzzer.
Mike Runcie hit a runner off the glass as time expired to King Street Kings (11’s) a 48-46 win over Trenton Boys and Girls Club in the 12 and Under Div 2 Championship. Anthony Uribe scored 18 points to lead the winners while Wade Baldwin made some big shots to keep Trenton B&G close thoughout.
Top Performers
Temple Gibbs Guard (KSK)- Gibbs steady point guard play especially against the Trenton pressure proved to be very vital down the stretch. His strong frame allowed him to absorb the body contact that comes along with pressure defense. He also was able to get the rock to the right people at the right time.
Anthony Uribe Forward (KSK)- Uribe made some huge baskets down the stretch including some big free throws to help his team get over the hump. Anthony was a finisher at the end of the press break and converted many of his opportunities.
Bryce Aiken Guard (KSK)- Aiken stung defenses during the tourney with superb outside shooting. The dribble penetration of Gibbs and Otis Livingston made the defense leave Aikens open and for the most part he made them pay.
Otis Livingston Guard (KSK)- The miniature guard is a crowd pleaser with his relentless style of attacking the cup. Once he gets into the seams he could either drop it off or drop in a floater.
Mike Runcie Guard (KSK)- Runcie waited for his chance and took full advantage. On the final play he ran back door and tossed a floater off the glass right before the buzzer sounded.
Wade Baldwin Guard (Trenton B&G)- Wade showed the confidence to shoot the outside shot when the game was very tight. He can hit the jumper from the side with good accuracy and seems to be almost automatic at the charity stripe.
Isiah Powell Guard (Trenton B&G)- Powell had his moments during the tournament. He was streaky from outside but did finish at the rim in transition and when he was attacking the gaps. He has good poise and isn’t afraid to take the big shot even if he isn’t successful.
Shaquan Worthy Guard (Trenton B&G)- Trenton was trailing until Worthy entered the game and gave them some fire from both ends of the floor. He put enormous pressure on KSK guards and helped to speed up Trenton’s transition game. He was a sure spark.
Deante Cole Guard (Trenton B&G)- The lefty knows how to get out on the break and convert buckets. In transition he does a good job of lining up the defender so he can finish with his left. I would have liked to see the ball in Cole’s hand more down the stretch of the game.
Rhys Dring Forward (Trenton B&G)- Dring was the physical presence inside and threw his body around a bit. He has good touch from the foul line in and doesn’t mind doing the dirty work.

Mike Melton Flashback: Team NJ Dynasty!
In basketball on every level there’s a dynasty that people talk about. You have St. Anthony (high school) ruling the 90’s, UCLA (College) running through everyone during the Alcindor and Walton era’s. Then you had Jordan and the Bulls looking like Cousy and the Celtics. Well in NJ AAU basketball before there was Team NJ Elite or NJ ABC, Team NJ wrecked havoc on the AAU scene. Led by Dexter Strickland, Parris Bennett, Raymond Graham and Anthony Baskerville (the core), they managed to run off six consecutive state titles. Throughout the tri-state area this squad name rang bells. Most of the players have went on to successful careers in high school as Dexter Strickland has committed to North Carolina, Raymond Graham is regarded as one of the top running backs in the country while Paris Bennett and Anthony Baskerville are mulling over Division 1 offers. This has been a Mike Melton Flashback.

Introducing: Jason Boswell
Big time wing players have always been a delight for college recruiters and basketball analyst. Well in New York there’s a kid that has the potential to be a big time wing guard. His name is Jason Boswell. I first saw Boswell playing in the All City Youth Classic and was very impressed with his attributes. He has a good nose for the ball and wing span that’s out of this world. Jason looks good when he rises up for his jumper or stretching out to convert a lay up. He’s currently running on the circuit with Long Island Lightning 13 and Under Crew while having some good showings thus far this spring. The comparisons to Durand Scott are already starting to blossom and Boswell is determined to work hard to make it play speak for itself. J Smooth as he is called is a perfect nickname describing his game. You can check Boswell and his teammates at the Basketball Spotlight MDC.
Class 2012 Player Profile: Jordan Forehand
Name: Jordan Forehand
AAU Team: Greenburg Kings
Height: 5'10
Position: Combo Guard
Evaluation: Forehand was the bright spot for his team at the Rebounds Super Regional. He created numerous opportunities when he had the rock in his hands. Jordan was able to break down defenders and finish at the rim. He also showed some confidence while shooting for the perimeter which helped open up his dribble drives. I don’t know the competition level of the high schools in his area but I think he could be an immediate impact when he reaches there next fall.

Diary Of A Baller: Kyle Anderson Entry #12
Hey! How's everyone doing. I'm back again to tell you how my really upsetting week went. First off, let me tell you guys, I GOT INJURED! Before I get to that, let me explain how the first part of my week went. Monday I stayed home all day and did nothing. Really boring day. Tuesday I went to the Playaz practice in Paterson for our 15U team. It was A good practice. We got a lot of skill work done. When we do skill work the guards do big man drills and the big men do guard drills. After that we ran 'dummy' through all of our offenses. Lastly, we scrimmaged and we went at it. Myles Davis and I are usually in the back court together. Myles Mack and Jhamir White are on the other side. It's an intense battle. I think that's why we play so well together, 'we tired of goin at each other.
Wednesday, was DOOMS DAY! After school I just wanted to play ball, wherever, it didn't matter. I told my dad to take me to the top 100. But we didn't go. I went to one park and nothing was happening over there. But my friends were telling me stay here take A day off and just hang out with them. I said no because I'm hard headed and just wanna' play ball. So I went to the park up the block and got on the court right away. I won the first game and then the second game came up. On the second play of the game, BOOM! I fall to the ground knee first. I was screaming for help all I could think is 'Awl man my career is over'. I got home and rested it. I didn't think it was anything serious. My mom came home and took me to the emergency room. I had an X-Ray and there was no break in my knee cap, that was good news. The doctor then told me I had to go to another doctor the next day and get a MRI to see if there is any other damage. The doctor said I just had A bruised knee.
Thursday I went and got a MRI. That was the most annoying thing ever! The results said its just a bad bruise. The weekend came and my team went to Pittsburg. I went too but I had to watch. The most painful thing ever :-( . I watched my team lose to Specie Indy from Indiana in the Elite 8 of the tournament. There were some good 15U teams in the tournament. Ohio Basketball Club(they won the CHIP) with Stevie Taylor, Jhavon Clark and Chenne Behanne (he's a beast!!!), Boo Williams with fellow 8th grader Justin Anderson, and also All Ohio Red with our old teammate Chauncey Orr. We played them in pool play and beat them. Well, its all good. I'll be back to play in two or three weeks. Next week we go to Rhode Island for the Prov Jam Fest. I'm not playing in that tournament either, but I'll let you guys know if my knee got better or worse. Hopefully better. Be back next week, LATER!

Introducing: Tywon Bressler (Feat. Video)
Bessler's Video
Tywon Bressler is an 11 year old guard from Milwaukee, WI and plays for the 5th grade Playground I.C.E. Elite (formally Milwaukee I.C.E.) A.A.U squad. The Playground Elite name comes from their new Nike sponsored program.
Bressler’s ball handling, speed and ability to change direction is unbelievable. He sees the floor as well as some high school ball players. Tywon can also shoot the ball very well. He has a midrange as well as a long range game. He can go left or right and finish. Defensively he is very solid as well. All this talent comes from his drive to get better.
He started playing in camps at 4 years old & school ball in the 2nd grade in which he made the 5th grade A team. In four years of elementary school ball he's only lost 2 games & winning 52. This past year he started on the 5th & 6th grade school teams leading them both to undefeated seasons and City titles. In Milwaukee, school basketball starts very early. He works out with a personal trainer Tony Smith (former Los Angeles Lakers) or Deshaun Curtis (Improve your game-Master trainer) every week. He also work with his coach one night a week for 3 hours 1 on 1 as well.
While playing all this basketball, Tywon still remains a honor student. Tywon has acheived the all academic award from his school 2 years in a row. You must make the honor roll every quarter of the year to receive this award. He's won many tourney MVP's and made numerous all tourney teams with the most recent being NY2LA's Swish N Dish tourney the Midwest biggest tourney where he put up 17 pts and 11 assists a game.
This is not the only sport that Tywon excels in. He's a superior running back as well in Pop Warner league. While leading his team to the championship he had 9 touchdowns in the 10 game season and won the league leadership & dedication award.
Introducing Sa’eed Nelson
Sa’eed Nelson is a 4th Grader from Atlantic City area that you will need to keep an eye out for. That’s right 4th Grader! I saw Nelson playing for the NJ Shore Shots this weekend and he made my jaw drop. The 9 year old playing in the 10U division had exceptional speed, poise and understanding of basketball. He knows when to pick his spots to attack and has court vision beyond his age. When his squad was trailing against Asbury Park Rec, Nelson turned his game up by stepping up the defense and drive, draw and dishing on offense. This kid is truly a blur with the rock. Sa’eed also gets it done on the gridiron. Last season he had 30 touchdowns for his Pop Warner team.

Class: 2013
Breakdown: It’s always a pleasure to see some new talent when you walk into the building and that’s how I felt when I saw Jefferson at the Rebounds Super Regional. I like this kid’s soft hands and footwork on the blocks. He knows how to contest shots and hit the glass for boards. His inside play helped his squad advance to the finals.

Diary Of A Baller: Kyle Anderson Entry #11
Hello to everyone this is Kyle Anderson. This is my weekly diary so enjoy while Itell you what happen during my week. This week was a week of straight street ball. I only had only one organized event this week which I'll tell you about later.
Monday I went out to the park in the next town over, Cliffside Park. I got there too late and had to wait some games and only got in two games. :-( . Won both of the games though. The next day, same park but I got their early. The first game was a warm-up but the rest was business. A lot of good players were out there and I never lost at that park. I won 4 straight games but the fifth one, I received my first lost there ever!
The next two days were days of relaxation. Wednesday was nothing, but Thursday I went out to eat with my mother at a restaurant named Bone Fish in Secaucus NJ. It was her birthday and we celebrated a little early. I had a nice time with my family especially since my sister Tai who came up from Atlanta was there. I haven't seen her in a while. Friday I had A game at IS8 in Queens, N.Y.. It was in the 19U division. I played with the Playaz 16u. That's Jayon James, Fuquan Edwin, Zeke Epps, Ashon White, Shaq Thomas TJ Clemmins and a new kid named Mike from Mt Holley. He's a guard and did pretty good. We lost to Team NYC ABC by 1. I didn't play well, only had 4 pts.
The next day just spent my day around basketball at IS8 and watched my manz Myles Davis play. Myles dropped 27 in one of his games and was hitting jumpers all over the place. One play he took two steps over half court and rained in a '3'. He ended the game with a game winning '3'. 'That's my manz'. Later that night my sister took me to my favorite restaurant of all time, Amy Ruth's, :-)! It's in Harlem on 116 and Lenox Ave. The next day were 2 IS8 games in Queens. The first game I actually played well. I had 11pts and played the 5, LOL, yes in 19U I played the 5 on defense and the PG on offense. The 2nd game was A blowout and I didn't score. But we still won.
After that long week I went home Sunday night I got home at 6 and fell asleep forthe night. I didn't wake up until the next morning. Next week is Pittsburg I'll tell you guys if we win or not. Were missing' our 6'9 Desmond Hubert but we'll be alright. First game is against All Ohio Red who just beat OBC with Chenne and Stevie. Can you say DOG FIGHT! PEACE!

NJ State 13 and Under Top Performers
Nate King Was A Scoring Machine In The State Tourney
Only two teams were able to make it to the 13 and Under Championship but there was many other players that caught our eye during the state tournament. Here’s a breakdown of some players that had some breakout performances this weekend.
13 and Under Top Performers
Nate King Guard (Trenton Hurricanes)- King brought his game during the tournament. He carried the Hurricanes in scoring averaging over 25 points a game including a whooping 31 markers in the consolation game against the NJ Shore Shots. He’s almost impossible to stop offensively on this level.
Dahquan Chew Forward (Trenton Hurricanes)- Chew has made the most improvement over the years than any other player in the program. The lefty shows flashes with improved post moves and leaping high for rebounds.
Nazier Chew Guard (Trenton Hurricanes)- Chew made his presence felt on the defensive end by making opposing guards work to bring the rock up. Offensively he made some moves towards the basket but does need to knock the jumper down more consistently.
Keith Kirkwood Guard (NJ Shore Shots)- The sweet shooting guard had his moments against NJ Crusaders in which he drained multiple jumpers and make some moves towards to the basket. Kirkwood is playing with a high level on confidence right now.
Keyshawn Rice Guard (NJ Shore Shots)- Rice was on fire at times during the tourney. He’s a streaky scorer that loves to put especially when he feeling it. He also showed the tendency to make a few point guard decisions.
Travis Rocida Guard (Camp Pocono)- Rocida dribbling style gave the Hurricanes some problems during their match up. He got into the lane and either scored or dropped off to his teammates. He was a gamer during that contest.
Conner Cuccinelli Forward (Camp Pocono)- Conner got busy inside for CP. He has text book post moves and knows how to use the glass well. He made Trenton pay when he had second chance opportunities.
Gary Whritenhour Guard (Camp Pocono)- Every time it seemed Trenton was pulling away Whritenhour would drain a trey to make things close again. He is a spot up shooter that benefits greatly from Rocida penetration skills.

NJ 13 and Under Championship Recap: Playaz Cruise Too Title
Nyie Johnson scored 16 and Joshua Marquez added 10 points as the Playaz Basketball Club ran past the Linden Ballers 75-44 to win the NJ AAU 13 and Under Championship. DeAndre Santos scored 13 points for the Linden Ballers.
Championship Game Top Performers
Nyie Johnson Forward (Playaz)- Johnson was a force because of his physical attributes. He scores inside with ease and hits the glass for rebounds. He has a mean streak that is hard to compete against on this level.
Matthew Johnson Guard (Playaz)- Matthew might be the best point guard in this class. He dazzled defenders with superb ball handling and basketball instincts. His court vision and presence is an immediate impact on the game. Once his jumper gets consistent his game will rise even higher.
Kavon Stewart Guard (Playaz)- The southpaw scores with such ease especially in transition. In the half court he gets into the lane at will and finishes at the cup with good accuracy. He looks like a young Nick Van Exel.
Reggie Cameron Forward (Playaz)- Cameron has a good touch from the perimeter and is a capable rebounder. He scored with ease at times but will have to improve his speed in years to come.
Mykhal Corbit Guard (Linden Ballers)- Corbit came to play for the Ballers early on. He was very active on the offensive end by getting into the lane and making things happen. He has a flair that catches your eye.
DeAndre Santos Forward (Linden Ballers)- Santos has become more mobile by putting the rock on the floor and moving his feet on defense. He tried to battle the long post players of the Playaz but got outnumbered on the glass at times.
NJ AAU 10 and Under Championship Recap: Team Battle Wins Crown
Tyus Battle scored 11 points and Jamir Harris added 9 markers as Team Battle came back from first half double digit deficit to defeat F.A.C.E.S 40-30 in the NJ AAU 10 and Under Championship. Azzur Taylor led F.A.C.E.S with 16 points in the loss.
Top Championship Game Performers
Tyus Battle Guard (Team Battle)- After having a hard time in the first half against F.A.C.E.S pressure Battle took control in the second stanza. He used his size to see over the defense and was able to force his will offensively. Tyus got involved on the boards on both ends of the floor and hit a big trey that put his squad ahead for good.
Jamir Harris Forward (Team Battle)- Harris got involved inside and got some put backs that helped give his squad the advantage. Harris’s size started to cause problems for F.A.C.E.S in the second half.
Chase Barneys Guard (Team Battle)- Barneys also picked up his scoring during Team Battle’s run. He did a good job in transition and hitting the gaps in the half court set.
Joey Krempa Guard (Team Battle)- Krempa is tough as nails and it showed in this game. He made a few tough moves and hit some big shots when they needed them.
Azzur Taylor Guard (F.A.C.E.S)- Taylor’s scoring helped F.A.C.E.S blow the doors open early. He hit the floaters and seems to know how to use the glass effectively.
RJ Cole Guard (F.A.C.E.S)- Cole handles the pill like a true floor general. His jump shot wouldn’t fall in but his form and strength makes every shot look good when it’s released. I love his competiveness.

Mike Melton Flashback: Durand Scott Destroys The AAU Nationals
AAU season is in full swing so it brought back memories of when Durand Scott and the NYC Gauchos played at the 14 and Under Nationals. Scott put on an impressive offensive show during this tournament. He had everything clicking, jumper, drives and scoring in traffic. Durand had some of the national scouts watering at the mouth. He was silky smooth off guard with the killer instinct that allowed him to takeover at the end of games. Scotts play helped his squad make it to the Final 4 which is an enormous feat in the nationals. This was a Mike Melton Flashback stay tune for more.
Baby Ballerz: Ray Lawrey
Name: Ray Lawrey
AAU Team: Harvest Knights
Position: Combo Guard
Class: 5th Grade
Breakdown: Lawrey is a strong guard that gets to the basket whenever he wants. When I saw him at the Filly Sol Dream Classic he broke through the defense and arrived to the basket quickly. Ray is very explosive on this level and seems to have the hunger to keep improving on his game.

Introducing: Justin Roberts
If St. John’s head man Norm Roberts remains the coach until 2016 he won’t have to look far for a point guard because his son Justin should be able to fill that void. Roberts is a pint size point guard that runs a team and will hit the open trey. I got my glimpse of Justin at the Basketball Spotlight MDC last year and was impressed with court play and toughness as he helped his team win the crown. He also walked away with the Mr. Memorial Day Award. This season I caught him in action over in Philadelphia at the Filly Sol Dream Classic where he also was able to make some things happen. He will join his 11 and Under Long Island Lightning crew in this year’s version of the Basketball Spotlight MDC.

Basketball Spotlight Book of The Week: Sole Influence By Dan Wetzel and Don Yaeger
On city playgrounds and in high-school gymnasiums, the search goes on for the next Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant - potential superstars who can bring millions in sales to the athletic shoe companies they endorse. Now an explosive and controversial expose at last reveals the ongoing exploitation of college, high-school, and even junior-high-school players by profit-minded sneaker companies...Sole Influence.
Thirty years ago pro basketball players wore modest-looking canvas high-tops. Today, sneakers are a billion-dollar worldwide business, with companies constantly developing flashy new designs, new looks, and new multimillion-dollar ad campaigns. Why? Because one hot shoe - worn by a popular pro basketball player - can become a license to print money. And because the potential payoff is so big, these companies scour the country for the basketball stars of tomorrow, handing out free footwear, free sports gear, and the lure of six-figure contracts - just to wear a certain brand of shoe.
Some young players choose brand loyalty by the time they are fourteen, as sneaker companies not only try to buy the allegiance of players, but also attempt to control coaches, teams, even whole universities.
Written by two of the most knowledgeable journalists in sports, Sole Influence takes you into this battle for the hearts, minds, and feet of young athletes - at any price. Along the way, it shows how criminals, including drug dealers and have ended up on a shoe company's payroll. More frightening, this book reveals how corporate money funneled into amateur sports has created black-market professionalism among college and high-school athletes, with promises of fame and fortune that for most players will simply never come true.
Hard-hitting, thoroughly researched, and deeply troubling, Sole Influence sounds an important alarm to a society that for too long has ignored the dark business behind amateur sports - and what it does to the young people who play them.

In The Spotlight: Jake Dadika
Name: Jake Dadika
AAU Team: CJ Jammers
Position: Point Guard
Class: 2014
Breakdown: They say Jake’s dad was a great shooter during his days at Rutgers University and his son has a similar stroke. I saw him in action at the Rebounds Super Regional and he showed some good poise and ability to score from the point possessions. He runs the team effienciently and knows how to create his own shot off the dribble which is rare at this age. His future should be bright. You can check out Jake and his teammates at the Basketball Spotlight MDC.

Diary Of A Baller: Kyle Anderson Entry #10
Wassup everyone, again this is Kyle Anderson reporting to you guys to tell you how my week went. Last week I told you guys I'd let you how we did in the Spring Fling Phase II. I'll get to that later. Let me start off with Monday. Monday was A day off because of such A long weekend.
So, Tuesday really started off the week. Tuesday was the top 100 camp by Hoopgroup for 8th and 9th graders. At the camp we did a few activities, first was drills and everything, full court layup drills and everything, caught A few dunks,LOL. Then later on in the night the games started. Its showtime, just what I've been waitin' for. On my team I had my main man Myles Davis. We were servin' but the last 8 minutes I didn't have him in the game with me. But on the court was Kyle Anderson and Nkuerium Okoro. We went at it for the rest of that time tradin' baskets back and forth. We were going hard at each other. We usually play together, but tonight, well you should have been there. That night on AIM he said I won that battle,LOL.
Wednesday and I had a game in the Spring Fling with the Playaz 15U. We played Camp Pocono (never heard of 'em) The game was 'light'. I played well. The next day was a day off so I went outside to the park and worked on my game just so I don't get rusty. That day went by fast.
Friday night started my weekend and I went to work the games down at Rutgers. Coach Jerome asked me to play with the 17s (Playaz), so I did. I played well, had a couple of assist but didn't get in the score book, LOL. I worked the tables the rest of the night. I got home around 2 o'clock in the morning and went straight to sleep. Four hours later I had to wake up and go back to Rutgers for a game @ 12 o'clock. We played Unique All Stars. 'SMACK CITY'. We won by 40. At 8 o'clock was the playoffs against Team NJ ABC. We won that by A couple points, easy victory. We then had a game in an hour at 10 o'clock , YES PM. In between I watched UNC get smacked by Kansas,SMH! Then game time at 11 o'clock , Smacked another team by 20+ mercy rule was in full effect. Got home late aga that night had only 5hrs of sleep. Next day the semis against the DC Blue Devils. Up 9 at the half, Up 5 with 50 seconds left and we couldn't pull it out. We missed 6 straight free throws down to stretch. Can't win games like that. After that I watched our 16s take the 17u chip over the New York Panthers and went home.
I don't think I shot the ball well this weekend so I am going to get two days in the gym this week with Kent Culuko. You wanna be a 'Shooter' coach Kent gets it done! This summer I will be at his camps working on my shooting. June 23-27th and June 30-July 2nd in Franklin Lakes New Jersey are two of the weeks I am going, wanna get my shot right for July and the 'Live Period' Vegas here we come again.
Next week no tourneys for my 15U team, but I will probably play with our 17's at IS8 in Queens. So it wont be so interesting but I'll fill everyone in, PEACE

Baby Ballerz : Jack Byrne
Name: Jack Byrne
AAU Team: Bayshore Bulldogs
Position: Forward
Class: 5th Grade
Breakdown: Every team needs a glue player that can do just about everything and Jack fills that role with the Bulldogs. He doesn’t dominate the ball with dribbling but he makes things happen by rebounding, scoring and making the extra pass. Looking at his fathers size Byrnes should be quite a tall prospect. Hopefully he keeps his unselfish style of play as his game matures.

He came up with some big plays down the stretch to get the job done. Check out his work in these MDC highlights. He’s wearing uniform #1. Highlights

In The Spotlight: Shaakir Lindsey
Name: Shaakir Lindsey
AAU Team: Harlem Kings
Position: Point Guard
Class: 2013
Breakdown: If you like small creative guards then Lindsey is your man. He played the role as the little big man this past weekend at the Rebounds Super Regional. Shaakir dazzled defenders with superb ball handling while slicing through the lane like a knife. When the defenders tried to give him room he tickled the twine with pull up jumpers and floaters. What really catches your eye is the strength this kid packs into a small frame.

Position: Guard
Class: 2014
Breakdown: While Brandon Austin controls the paint CJ Wolfe is the man on the perimeter. Wolfe is a scoring guard that breaks down defenses with dribble penetration. I got a chance to check him out at numerous events including the Maryland Invitational and Filly Sol Dream Classic. If he gets it going offensively it could be a long night for the defense.

In The Spotlight : Diamonte Zarba
Name: Diamonte Zarba
AAU Team: Westchester Hawks
Position: Wing Guard
Class: 2013
Breakdown: Zarba had some special moments at the Rebounds Super Regional. His versatility causes big time problems for the opposition. His size makes it hard for smaller guards to check him while his perimeter skills including ball handling makes him a nightmare for big forwards. Zarba blacked out for a 30 plus outing against United Nova. He reminds me of a young Desean Butler, hopefully he can grow to 6’9.

Diary Of A Baller: Kyle Anderson Entry #9
Wassup readers, Kyle Anderson here reporting to you my weekly diary. This week wasn't the toughest week but it was alright. Let me start off on Monday.
Monday was pretty much A wack day. I had A day off but no one was at two of the local parks. So I spent all day trying to find out where to play. Finally, I decided on going to play at the park up the block, but too late :-( . Tuesday was Playaz practice with the 16s and 17s. I worked out with them for a while but then went over to Paterson Catholic to work out with my football - Quarterback coach. The drills and throwing technique is way different from what I was taught at North Bergen, but I'll adapt. Coach told me about ways to warm up and the new way they want me to throw.
Wednesday was Playaz 15u practice. Practice was light and we scrimmaged after (Caught A dunk,LOL).Then came the end of the week, Thursday and Friday. Thursday was A raining day and I did absolutely nothing, except watch Space Jam. Friday started the Spring Fling Phase 1 (the tournament started on Thursday, but our first game was on Friday). Friday night was A tough game with my 15u Playaz team. We played Team Kobe. They were all good and much stronger then us. "We beat 'em tho". I had 16 points in the victory. Got home late that night and I was EXHAUSTED. WOOF. Early Saturday morning woke up and had A 10 o'clock game against the New York Panthers. Didn't play so well there but still a W(win). Next victim was Team Boss who has Sean Grennon who's A really good player who can shoot from almost anywhere on the court. Got that win by 10, light. Remember, these are 16U teams, we are 15U! Playoffs finally, Quarterfinals was against Conneticut Basketball Club. This team beat New Heights 16s who has Jayvaughn Pinkston, Harold McBride and Devin Collier. We pulled it out by 1 on the team who beat New Heights. After A long day I was too tired. The next day was the semis against Dc Assault. Now, once again remember this is our 15yr old team in the 16yr old tournament playing in the Semis'.
So the semis' is against DC Assault. This team was a much bigger and stronger team then us. They have 6'8 Josh Hairston, 6'1 Tyler Thornton, Blake Bozeman (Coach Bozeman was there watching I met him at Eastern last year, he told me about some of the players he coached at Cal) and some other good players. I didn't think they were better skilled but obviously they were. I led the game in scoring with 17 points after gettin' ripped by my dad. I guess it helped but not enough, LOL. A 14 yr old leading A 16yr old game in scoring is pretty good in my eyes. After the loss was the Playaz Banquet. The banquet was C8-)8-)L and everything. I liked it a lot. But I just got home and just came back from going to the Pizza store on my block. Now I'm headin' off to bed,LOL! Next week is the Spring Fling Phase II 15u, 13u, and 17u.
I'll update you guys on how we did next week, PEACE
